It may sound like a super-natural myth, but the idea that human consciousness lives on after death has been put forward by a number of well-respected scientists. And the British scientist at the forefront of the eerie theory claims that humans have souls which don't die along with the body. We many not know exactly what consciousness is, but physicist Sir Roger Penrose believes that it's just a packet of information stored at a quantum or sub-atomic-level. Sensationally, he claims to have found evidence that this information, which is stored in microtubules within human cells, leaves the body after a person dies. Sir Roger has argued that when a person dies temporarily, this quantum information is released into the universe, only to return to the body's cells if the host is brought back to life. He argues that this explains why people can have near-death experiences, and believes that this quantum information amounts to a soul leaving the body. The physics expert said: "If the patient dies, it's possible that this quantum information can exist outside the body, perhaps indefinitely, as a soul. And Sir Roger is not alone in believing this, since his theory is backed by researchers at the renowned Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich. Experts there argue that our physical universe is just a perception, and that once our bodies die there is an infinite life beyond.

Mon Nov 21, 2016, 8:27 AM IST: Strong quake hits near Argentina, Chile border, no damage reported
A strong quake hit western Argentina, shaking buildings as far away as Santiago, the capital of neighbouring Chile, though there were no reports of damage to people, infrastructure or basic services. Chile's navy ruled out a tsunami after the quake, USA said it was a magnitude 6.4. Both Chilean and Argentine authorities said there were no reports of injuries or damage. The quake's epicentre was 14 miles (24 km) southwest of the Argentine town of San Juan, and about 165 miles (267 km) northeast of Santiago in Chile. The tremor was initially reported as a magnitude 6.7 but was later downgraded.

GRAVIMETRY SETUP

Fig.6 Sensitive Gravimetry set up.
Published in Physical Review Letters Vol.117 the device uses a cloud of ultra-cold atoms which are trapped in a cm-size chip using lasers and magnets. This is allowed to fall and using laser split into two parts, which are routed through different paths. When the two parts recombine the interference pattern gives a measure of the gravitational field on them. The atoms were super cooled to form a Bose condensate of 10,000 atoms to form a condensate, in about 15 s,  with a diameter about a hundred times smaller than a non-BC atom. This lies just below the surface of the cm-sized chip. The laser used to make the kick, with the cloud split a part shoots up while the other falls without feeling the kick. The two different paths are followed  with the part that was kicked having followed a longer path.

On 24 January 1809, the East India Company ship the Admiral Gardner departed from London bound for Madras. It carried a cargo of iron, guns, anchors, and 48 tons of company coins, currency for the workers in India. As the ship passed the coast of Kent, a fierce gale blew in. It ran aground on the Goodwin Sands along with two other East India ships that same night. Efforts to save the ship were futile, although somewhat miraculously, only one life was lost. These three East India Company ships, as well as the HMS Stirling Castle, are just a few of more than 1,000 shipwrecks buried beneath the Goodwin Sands. Some believe the number of wrecks may be as high as 2,000.

In their search for the underlying mechanism behind surface melting, the team in Japan, used a special optical microscope jointly developed with Olympus Corp. to observe how thin water layers, or quasi-liquid layers (QLLs), are born and disappear at various temperatures and vapour pressure levels. The team discovered that QLLs form only when the surface of ice is growing or sublimating, under supersaturated or unsaturated vapour conditions. This finding strongly suggests that QLLs are a meta-stable transient state formed through vapour growth and sublimation of ice, but are absent at equilibrium. (Seven Days ago news).

A series of earthquakes which struck central Italy in the past two months has sparked fears that the country's capital may be at risk from a "big one". The tremors, all followed by powerful aftershocks, proved the final straw for a number of important architectural landmarks, including the Abbey of Sant-Eutizio in Umbria, and damaged several churches and buildings in the heart of Rome including the Colosseum. Whilst scientists say there is no risk that Rome will be hit by a "big one", something different may be threatening the Eternal City, a dormant volcano.

Fig.2 The repeated lightnings in Catatumbo
Registering the world’s highest frequency of lightning, the Catatumbo lightning is a stunning weather phenomenon. Between 140 to 260 nights each year, a mass of storm clouds gathers over the Catatumbo River, where it empties into Lake Maracaibo, and lightning streaks across the area, sometimes up to 280 times in an hour. Believed to be a result of the winds blowing across the lake and the surrounding swampy plains, the phenomenon is popularly known as the “Lighthouse of Maracaibo.”  This is a second report. Earlier I have set it in my blogpost.com

It is home to the Cushing Tank Farm, a massive oil storage facility that’s touted as the world’s largest.
Butterfly Rydberg Molecule: November 2, 2016
Purdue University Rydberg molecules are formed when an electron is kicked far from an atom's nucleus. A physicist theorised in 2002 that such a molecule could attract and bind to another atom. A Purdue University physicist has observed a butterfly Rydberg molecule, a weak pairing of two highly excitable atoms that he predicted would exist more than a decade ago. For all normal atoms, the electrons are always just one or two angstroms away from the nucleus, but in these Rydberg atoms you can get them 100 or 1,000 times farther away.
Every time it whizzes past another atom, this Rydberg atom adds a little attraction and nudges it toward one spot until it captures and binds the two atoms together.  They were able to detect the energy of binding between the two atoms based on changes in the frequency of light that the Rydberg molecule absorbed. Researchers further explained that the Rydberg molecules are nearly 100-1000 times farther from nucleus when compared to normal molecules. For creating the bond, study authors first started with the Rubidium. They exposed Rubidium gas to a temperature of 100 nano-Kelvin, one ten-millionth of a degree above absolute zero and then used lasers to excite the atom to Rydberg state. Physicist then kept the molecules under observation and started looking for any changes in the frequency of light absorbed by the molecules which would suggest that molecules have interacted and have made a bond. After years of observation, researchers were able to detect weak bond formation by the distant electrons. This [distant] electron is like a sheepdog, Every time it whizzes past another atom, this Rydberg atom adds a little attraction and nudges it toward one spot until it captures and binds the two atoms together. It’s a really clear demonstration that this class of molecules exist. The study appeared in the journal Nature Communications. These molecules have huge electric dipole moments which allow them to be manipulated by weak electric fields 100 times smaller than those needed to move common diatomic molecules, this could one day be applied to the development of molecular scale electronics or machines.
NEW FORM OF LIGHT Dt. 08 Nov 2016
New research suggests that it is possible to create a new form of light by binding light to a single electron, combining the properties of both. But by using theoretical physics to model the behaviour of light and a recently-discovered class of materials known as topological insulators, Imperial researchers have found that it could interact with just one electron on the surface. Light travels in a straight line, but when bound to the electron it would instead follow its path, tracing the surface of the material.

NEW ZEALAND EARTHQUAKE 14 NOV 2016 MONDAY MORNING.
Two people have died after a powerful magnitude-7.8 earthquake (revised from earlier 6.6 magnitude)  struck New Zealand's South Island just after midnight, near the city of Christchurch early Monday, 14 Nov, the  causing wide spread damage. Epicentre was at 91 km , 57 miles, north-northeast of Christchurch. Thousands flee homes in the east coast as tsunami hits. Destructive waves were five meters high and future waves may be bigger than what has come before. Waves of around 2 m (6.6 ft) hit the coast shortly after the first earthquake.  There have been hundreds of strong aftershocks, causing power shortages and cuts in water supply. A collapsed building in the coastal tourist town of Kaikoura. A woman by name Elizabeth said whole house rolled like a serpent and some things smashed from her home in Takaka on the top of South Island.   A series of after shocks were felt some 200 km away i.e. about 120 miles away in the capital Wellington.
NEW QUAKE NEW ZEALAND
An earthquake measuring 6.1 in magnitude has hit New Zealand's South Island, hours after at least two people were killed by an initial quake. The new tremor struck about 13:45 PM local time (00:45 GMT) at a depth of 10 km (6 miles), northeast of Christchurch.
Possible double quacks occurred in New Zealand. A theoretical analysis is very much desired. The Guardian - 7 mins ago on 15 Nov 2016: Analysis How did New Zealand's earthquake happen? Was it two quakes in one? Scientists. In the 12 hours from 6 AM to 6 PM on Tuesday, Geonet, the official monitor, recorded 313 quakes, taking the total since the initial magnitude 7.5 quake to 1,212.

Updated: Nov 12, 2016 01:21 IST: The full moon will come nearer to Earth than at any time since 1948, astronomers said. At closest approach, which occurs at 1123 GMT on Monday, the moon will pass within 348,400 km of Earth’s surface, about 35,400 km closer than average. A super moon happens because of the strange, egg-shaped orbit of the moon. One part of the orbit known as the perigee, is about 30,000 miles closer to earth than the apogee, or the furthest part. And if the orbit of the moon lines up right with the sun and the Earth, it causes an effect called perigee-syzygy, meaning that the moon appears far bigger in the sky and gets called a super moon. Super moons happen relatively often. But it’s very rare that they’re quite as big as the one coming this month.

Advanced Materials&  Interfaces journal published recently article by Dipti Dhakras of NCL  Pune and Prof. S. Ogale of IISER, Pune, electrospun a piezo electric polymer [P(VDF-TrFE)] directly on to a flexible conducting carbon cloth, which was preheated to 800 C for several hours in an inert atmosphere. To promote the piezo-electric property of polymer fibres, they coated with a strong inorganic ferroelectric material, BariumTitanate (BaTiO3) paste (optimised for 5%), with the nano-particles from coating helped fill the gaps in polymer fibres and increase the piezo-electricity. Coated polymer covered by a flexible carbon cloth before the device is sealed. Carbon cloth on either side of the device acted as two electrodes. When thumb pressure was applied on the polymer  about 2-3 volt generated, but with BaTiO3 the piezovoltage generated was 7-8 volts. But 14 volts produced when BaTiO3 was coated on the polymer and also on the fibre surface asserts the leading madam author.

KARTHIK POURNIMA
In this year Kartik Poornima festival of Hindu holy day celebration on the day of Full moon or the calendar lunar day of Kartik in November 14, 2016 the Karik is celebrated when Yashoda tried to tie baby Krishna on the pillar then she seen a Krishna magical powers in the mouth of Shri Krishna. Kartika Purnima celebrates the power of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Lord Shiva, killed the demon Tripusara on this day and therefore Shiva Temples are crowded with devotees to celebrate the event. As water from the natural spring gets collected in the wide pit before the shrine, moonlight reflected from it falls on the forehead of the idol of the goddess resembling an attractive jewel on the Karthika Pournami day. Lord Siva appearing in eight forms 1. Shashinaga, 2. Rudra, 3. Visweswara, 4. Nagarikeswara, 5. Bhargeswara, 6. Rameswara, 7. Mallikarjuna and 8. Pakshamalika Linga. Hindus believe it to be auspicious to perform a ‘Snan’ (bathing ritual) and worship their Gods and Goddesses. Kartik Purnima is also celebrated as ‘Dev Deepavali’ that is the Diwali for Gods and Goddesses. As per the Hindu mythology, the Hindu Gods descended to Earth in the sacred rivers, on this day, and therefore by taking a holy dip, devotees receive the divine blessings of all the Gods. The day of Kartik Purnima also marks the celebrations of Tulsi Vivaah. On this day marriage ceremony of Lord Vishnu with Devi Vrinda (Tulsi plant) is commemorated with great pomp and show. Purnima Thithi begins on 13 Nov 2016 at 23:17 PM and Purnima Thithi ends on 14 Nov 2016 at 19:22 PM. Lord Vishnu incarnated as ‘matsya’ (fish form) and therefore Kartik Purnima is also distinguished as the birthday of the Matsyaavatar of Sri Hari Vishnu. It is strongly believed that on worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day, devotees can benefit immense fortune. Kartik Purnima is also celebrated as the birthday of Vrinda (Tulsi plant) and the ceremonious Tulsi Vivaah is also performed on this day. The day of Kartik Purnima is so auspicious that any religious activity done on this day gives manifold benefits. Performing puja, daan or snan on this day is equivalent to doing 100 Ashvamedha Yagyas. It is aptly stated that Kartik Purnima provides Artha, Dharma, Kama and Salvation. On this day the observer should worship the 6 Kruthikas, Shiva, Sambhuti, Santati etc at time of Moon-rise. If one donates a ram made of gold on this day one is freed from problems of Grahadosh (problems and curses of planets). There is a custom even of donating of Ksheer Shayya (an ocean). One should fill the dish with milk and should disburse a fish made of gold or silver in the dish and donate it.
