The researchers had more good news in store. Another rare species, the ‘Dark Cerulean’, was spotted at least thrice between October 2018 and February 2019 in two different places in Delhi. This species was last spotted in the late 90s and before that in 1985. Both Common Lineblue and Dark Cerulean are usually found in the Himalayan foothills.  The resurfacing of the two rare species have prompted researchers and lepidopterologists in the city to speculate that the city’s floral diversity could be changing, attracting new butterfly species from adjoining places. A rare butterfly species ‘Common Lineblue’, which was last seen in 1962 in Delhi, has resurfaced in the national capital after a gap of over half a century, and was spotted by researchers from Delhi University in August 2018.

The eclipse gradually grew and was at its peak at 3 am and it exactly seemed as if a chunk of the Moon has been bitten off. Apart from India, the eclipse was witnessed in regions of Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America. According to the Hindu tradition, no religious or auspicious practice is performed at the time of the lunar eclipse. Going by this tradition, many famous temples across the country also remain closed for darshan during the period. At it’s maximum, the Moon will be about 65% covered. Partial phases for the July 16th eclipse last 2 hours, 57 minutes and 56 seconds, while the entire eclipse including penumbral phases will last at total of 5 hours, 33 minutes and 43 seconds in duration.  Key times for the partial lunar eclipse in Universal Time (UT) to the nearest minute are as follows: P1-Enters the penumbra: 18:44 UT: U1-Enters the umbra: 20:02 UT: U4-Quits the umbra: 23:00 UT: P4-Quits the penumbra: 00:18 UT (July 17th).
July 17, 2019: 8:22 PM: Updated 31 minutes ago: Latest hot spell set to deepen drought pain in France. Hot weather in France next week is expected to prolong drought conditions that have impacted several sectors including nuclear power generation and farming, and led to restrictions on water use in 61 administrative regions. A corn field affected by drought is pictured in Montbert near Nantes, France July 16, 2019. The hot weather and lack of rainfall throughout the year have led to very low levels of groundwater, which contributes to the volume and flow of rivers. When groundwater decreases and there is no rainfall, rivers dry up. The situation was more critical in the Loire, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes and Burgundy regions in central and eastern France. The Rhone River has been severely impacted. There has been very little rainfall in the region over the past three winters. The changes enabled the plants to cut water use, while ventilation systems were added to reduce the impact of high temperatures.

July 17, 2019: 0913 GMT (1713 HKT):  More than 60 years later, researchers at Columbia University say radiation on four of these atolls remains alarmingly high -- in some areas ten to 1,000 times higher than radioactive areas near the Chernobyl powerplant, which exploded in 1986, and Fukushima, where an earthquake and tsunami caused a nuclear disaster in 2011. Analysing soil samples, researchers found concentrations of americium-241, cesium-137, plutonium-238, and plutonium-239,240 on 11 islands across the four northern atolls. The population of the Marshall Islands is relatively small, with just over 75,000 people living on the chains as of July 2018. It is a combination of islands and atolls, which are usually circular islands ringing a wide lagoon or coral reef.

Jul. 22, 209: 2 hours ago: Physicists Have Reversed Time on The Smallest Scale by Using a Quantum Computer.  Schrödinger's equation is reversible. "Mathematically, it means that under a certain transformation called complex conjugation, the equation will describe a 'smeared' electron localising back into a small region of space over the same time period." Each of these states, or qubits, was arranged into a simple state which corresponded to a hand holding the ball. Once the quantum computer was set into action, these states rolled out into a range of possibilities. By tweaking certain conditions in the computer's setup, those possibilities were confined in a way that effectively rewound the Schrödinger equation deliberately. the algorithms they used to manipulate the Schrödinger equation into rewinding in this way could help improve the accuracy of quantum computers. It's not the first time this team has given the second law of thermodynamics a good shake. A couple of years ago they entangled some particles and managed to heat and cool them in such a way they effectively behaved like a perpetual motion machine. Finding ways to push the limits of such physical laws on the quantum scale just might help us better understand why the Universe 'flows' like it does.

From its launch to the soft landing, the entire mission is set to take about 58 days. After the launch, it will take 16 days to raise the orbit and then five days to reach the moon’s orbit. Once there, it will make an orbit around the moon for 27 days, before the lander makes an attempt to de-orbit. After four more days, the lander will land in a difficult manoeuvre that lasts 15 minutes. The rover and the lander will have a life of one lunar day (14 earth days) and for that lunar day, it will conduct scientific experiments. The orbiter, however, has a life of one year. The first landing pictures may be available within 15 minutes of the lander touching down. However, it will take four hours from the time of landing to the time the rover comes out from the lander. India will use the Deep Space Network of the US space agency on payment basis for navigation and guidance. The mission carries 13 Indian scientific instruments for experiments. Imaging of rock will be done to find elements like magnesium, calcium and iron and also for signs of water. Mission will also study the exosphere of the moon. GSLV-Mk III will also be used for India’s manned space mission slated in 2022.
