Aug 22, 2019: 16:08 IST: German Physicist create world’s smallest engine. In the future, such devices could be incorporated into other technologies in order to recycle waste heat and thus improve energy efficiency. The engine -- a single calcium ion -- is electrically charged, which makes it easy to trap using electric fields. The working substance of the engine is the ion’s “intrinsic spin” or its angular momentum. This spin is used to convert heat absorbed from laser beams into oscillations, or vibrations, of the trapped ion, researchers said. These vibrations act like a “flywheel”, which captures the useful energy generated by the engine, they said. This energy is stored in discrete units called “quanta”, as predicted by quantum mechanics. “The flywheel allows us to actually measure the power output of an atomic-scale motor, resolving single quanta of energy, for the first time,” said Mark Mitchison from Trinity College Dublin in Ireland. Starting the flywheel from rest -- or, more precisely, from its “ground state” (the lowest energy in quantum physics), the team observed the little engine forcing the flywheel to run faster and faster. The state of the ion was accessible in the experiment, allowing the physicists to precisely assess the energy deposition process. “This experiment and theory ushers in a new era for the investigation of the energetics of technologies based on quantum theory, which is a topic at the core of our group’s research

"Out of 10.5cm/sec, if there's a one-second blunder in the mission, the spacecraft will miss the landing site by 7 degrees. All engineers will first map the landing site. A flat, plain ground without rocks or a steep incline is ideal, and the decision on which spot to land on will be made by the spacecraft in an autonomous 15-minute landing sequence starting at 1.40 am IST on 7 September."

Eugenol is the major essential oil in Tiru beetal leaf contributing to its pungency. Mrs. Peramma Rangadhama Rao was consuming the beetal leaves, four times a day, especially, obtained from Vijayanagaram. The beetal leaves are very popular both in the north and south India, but preparation of the so-called pan differs widely in India. When consumed, it helps the digestive system. The GI tag holds good, in my opinion, for all the varieties of beetal leafs throughout India.

The couple had sailed upon what scientists call a “pumice raft,” a mass of floating, porous rock that forms when a volcano erupts from the ocean floor. The hot lava, full of gas bubbles, cools in the ocean water and produces pumice, which floats to the surface above the eruption. The raft spotted by the Hoults has been compared in size to Manhattan, Washington and 20,000 football fields. A volcanic eruption has been captured in a stunning image taken from space. The Hoults had received an Aug. 14 email warning of “pumice fields,” which had been spotted by other sailors and detected from space by NASA satellites. By the evening of Aug. 15, they were surrounded by the rocks and their sulfur smell, they said in a post on the Facebook page that tracks their sailing and surfing adventures.August 27, 2019: 4:12:56 am: Jalandhar: 5,000 engaged in plugging 18 breaches, 20 lakh sandbags needs to complete task.
