AGRICULTURAL EFFORT IN INDIA:
A perspective review and fruitful suggestions:

Another high light of the meeting is the lively dialogue and discussions about the Seed Development (past and present trends), Quality control measures by Govt. Agencies, Methods of tagging the seed sales to Farmers, Plant protection methods and use of recommended pesticides and fertilizers. Emphasis has been made to review the disappearance of old verities of crops and failure to introduce verities from Japan etc. foreign countries. Farm management seems to a very important exercise.
Experiences of problems of famine in southern states, Andhra, Kerala, parts of Maharashtra in 1948-1952 were reviewed. Scientists are very concerned of new type of famine in Andhra during last four years, i.e. heavy rain scattered in isolated regions and no rain in some other areas of the state.
Farmers of these days have become more aware and convincing them to introduce verities of seeds or grow crops is being questioned and challenged by the primary class educated ryots in rural areas.
Special mention has been made of BAM-3(Orissa Berhampur) Thoka Sannalu, GEB-24 King variety, (that has good reflection of light from the seed due its constituents useful to puliohara, etc), EG Akulu,Krishna katukulu, Nellore Sannalu,Pula -1100, SR-26 for saline lands of low lying areas of delta areas, Basmati, Massori(becomes very pulpy on cooking, more broken rice drawbacks)
Etc. several cross verities is being suggested by research scientists and Govt. and Non-Govt. agencies.
All the agricultural scientists have enjoyed their jobs of FTC efforts of training the knowledge and skills of the farmers. At least Prabhakar has been asked by Bobbili farmers to stand as an MLA from Bobbili constituency for his free and expert advice and teaching to the local farmers.
Financing the farmer on a timely basis is very crucial to have more productivity.
Need of the hour is that more results of research to be passed on to the farmers.
Create seed villages.
Govt. interference led farmers to abandon their traditional method of seed generation and reserve seed cultivation of crops.
Previous concepts validity, experience and methods of transformation of knowledge, farmer’s acumen ship to have a personal evaluation, their intelligence and especially political awareness are some aspects of Modern India.
