FEBRUARY 1, 2016
In a paper published today in Nature communications the ASACUSA collaboration reports the unambiguous detection of 80 anti-hydrogen atoms 2.7 m downstream of their production, where the perturbing influence of the magnetic fields used initially to produce the anti-atoms is small. This result is a significant step towards precise hyperfine spectroscopy of anti-hydrogen atoms. In 2011, the ALPHA experiment announced trapping of anti-hydrogen atoms for 1000 seconds and reported observation of hyperfine transitions of trapped anti-atoms  2012. In 2013, the  ATRAP experiment announced the first direct measurement of the anti-proton's magnetic moment with a fractional precision of 4.4 parts in a million. At ALPHA, physicists study the anti-hydrogen particles by first combining an anti-proton and a positron (the antimatter equivalent of an electron) to make anti-hydrogen, which they trap in a magnetic field. They then kick the trapped particles with an electric field to see if they react. If an anti-hydrogen reacts and escapes from the trap then it means it has a charge, if it does not then it’s neutral.

IISc’s invention Mr. Santanu Talukder: 1 Feb 2016
Environment-friendly: Electro- lithography: Patent filed in December 2014: The process of lithography is straightforward. You take a transparent glass plate, coat it with a layer of a suitable polymer. On top of this, add a layer of chromium, then you dig a trench of the desired pattern on the chromium layer so that parts of the polymer layer are exposed. Using acetone, dissolve the exposed polymer and remove those parts of it. This caused a gap to be formed in the polymer-chromium sandwich. This whole assemblage functions like the negative of a developed photo film. Now, if the metal of choice is “sputtered” on to this sandwich, it will go and occupy the gap that’s been created and directly fall on the glass plate. In this way, the desired pattern using a metal of choice can be formed. This pattern will have a width equal to the width of the trench and thickness equal to the polymer layer. The crucial difference between existing processes and this one is in the manner of digging the trench. Here, the researchers use electrodes that are widely separated from each other. The very thin cathode, when it moves like a nib over the chromium layer, causes the metal to heat up, dissolve and flow out. This makes a trench whose width is nearly that of the electrode tip. Other techniques, the e-beam lithography which is very popular, or the optical lithography using ultraviolet light, involve machines that cost a few crores of rupees whereas this set up could be assembled at a cost price of some Rs. 20 lakhs.

 OUTDOOR BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES IN SPACE
Russians took a space-walk Wednesday to install fresh experiments outside the International Space Station and gather biological samples stuck outside for years. With that accomplished, the space-walkers set off to retrieve biological samples that have been outdoors seven years, and put out some new science trays. They also planned to test a new glue that might prove useful in years to come on the station's exterior.

FUSION DEVICE! Scientists to inject fuel in experimental fusion device:  4 hours ago on 3 Feb 2016 at 20h35m IST PM.  GREIFSWALD, Germany (AP)

Scientists in north-east Germany were poised to flip the switch Wednesday on an experiment they hope will advance the quest for nuclear fusion, considered a clean and safe form of nuclear power. Researchers at the MaxPlanck Institute in Greifswald planned to inject a tiny amount of hydrogen and heat it until it becomes a super-hot gas known as plasma, mimicking conditions inside the sun. It's part of a world-wide effort to harness nuclear fusion, a process in which atoms join at extremely high temperatures and release large amounts of energy. Advocates acknowledge that the technology is probably many decades away, but argue that once achieved, it could replace fossil fuels and conventional nuclear fission reactors. Construction has already begun in southern France on ITER, a huge international research reactor that uses a strong electric current to trap plasma inside a doughnut-shaped device long enough for fusion to take place. The device, known as a tokamak, was conceived by Soviet physicists in the 1950s and is considered fairly easy to build, but extremely difficult to operate. The team in Greifswald, a port city on Germany's Baltic coast, is focused on a rival technology invented by the American physicist Lyman Spitzer in 1950. Called a stellarator, the device has the same doughnut shape as a tokamak but uses a complicated system of magnetic coils instead of a current to achieve the same result.
JAPAN VOLCANO
Sakurajima volcano in Japan erupts. In southern Kagoshima prefecture erupted at 6:56 pm (0956 GMT). The Guardian:3 hours ago today 19h 41m PM, Feb 5, 2016. A volcano has erupted in southern Japan, sending an orange burst into the sky and lava. Lava rolled down mountain’s slope and smoke billows into sky after eruption in southern Japan. The country’s meteorological agency said Sakurajima erupted at about 7 PM local time (10 AM GMT). The public broadcaster NHK showed dark grey smoke billowing into the sky and lightening. The eruption shot out large rocks, with the agency warning debris and pyroclastic flows, super-hot and fast-moving mixture of gases and rock fragments, could reach as far as two kilometres (1.25 miles) away from the eruption vents.

COST OF SOLAR POWER
The US complaint in 2013 alleged that the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission subsidies were available only if developers used equipment produced in India, violating a key global trade rule. The programme is aimed at easing chronic energy shortages in India, Asia’s third-largest economy. The Obama administration argued that the rules are a barrier to solar products made in America and elsewhere but also effectively raised the cost of generating solar power in India and were extending the country’s dependence on fossil fuels.

COASTAL CLOUDS
Cool breeze from the Ocean in Rayalseema, Coastal area and Telengana regions accompanied with  rainy clouds. On Friday 5 Feb 2016, several places in Visakhapatnam there were slight spills of light rain. In both the states, daily temperatures were about one to two degrees higher than normal. Kurnool registered about 36 C. On Saturday and Sunday the city experienced cloudy weather. Evening on Saturday Feb 5, 2016 the sky was red in colour reflecting the Volcanic eruptions in Japan.

Tamil Nadu Meteorite Mystery on Saturday 6 Feb 2016 at 4 PM.
Meteorite Mystery deepens at Vellore, with the man was killed in a massive explosion that numbed another student and two gardeners were injured. A bakery shop located 500 meters had broken glass windows and also of the nearby houses due to the fall of this object. The sound was heard about 5 km away from the campus. A lakh of rupees was paid for the driver, Kamaraju’s death and three people would receive, said Madam Jayalalitha CM, 25,000 rupees given to the injured   Kamaraju went to wash his face at a tap near a water tank, in the parking lot of the college around noon on Saturday. The college was located at Natrampalli, about 85 km away from Vellore town.
The spot was about 18-20 km of air distance from Bethaveppampattu, where a similar object suspected to be a meteorite fell on January 26. It created a perfect circle in a farmland, and no casualty like in the recent incidence.
An American, Ann Hodges, injured by a softball-size hunk of black rock that broke through her ceiling of her house in Sylacauge, Alabama, in November 1954. It has hit her in the thigh, leaving a pine-apple-shaped bruise.
The last meteor shower was on January 3 and the next one expected between April 22 and 23. There is nothing in this February month according to them. In 2013, a meteorite exploded over central Russia, raining fireballs over a vast area and causing shock wave that smashed windows, damaged buildings and injured 1200 people.
The blast left a crater of 5 ft depth and 2 ft wide. Policemen recovered a black, pockmarked stone weighing 11 g from the blast site. Blast shattered several window panes and damaged the windscreens of buses parked nearby.  A dark blue stone was found at the scene. G. Baskar, the Principal was working in his cabin when he heard an explosion.
The last reported death from a meteorite strike was in 1825. A similar incident happened in Kerala two years ago. The experts were able to identify it only after it stopped burning.

Pune February 12, 2016 Waves replaced by Ripples!
Scientists spot elusive space-time ripples
After decades of search for these ripples in space-time, which Albert Einstein predicted exactly 100 years ago, scientists working with the gigantic optical instruments in the U.S. called LIGO [Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory], have detected signals of gravitational ripples emanating from two merging black holes 1.3 billion light years away arriving at their instruments on the Earth. That is to say, this cataclysmic event of two black holes merging occurred 1.3 billion years ago, when multi-cellular organisms were just beginning to form on the Earth, the gravitational ripples from which are being received now on the Earth.

Fig.12 a:  Earth quake in New Zealand Christchurch
A 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit the New Zealand city of Christchurch Sunday, 14 Feb 2016, seismologists said, sending goods flying off shelves. Sirens could be heard going off around the South Island city and at least one building was evacuated, according to media reports. The latest quake was measured at 5.8 by the US Geological Survey at a shallow depth of about eight km (five miles) and centred 17 km west of the city. New Zealand is on the boundary of the Australian and Pacific tectonic plates, which form part of the so-called "Ring of Fire", and experiences up to 15,000 tremors a year. A strong 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck near Christchurch in New Zealand on Sunday, causing cliffs to collapse into the sea but no major damage to the city. The epicentre of Sunday's quake on New Zealand's south island was 15 km (9 miles) east of Christchurch and at a shallow depth of 15 km (9 miles), There were more than 40 aftershocks.

BOSTON CHILLI TEMPERATURES
Fig.14 a Boston.com Staff | 02.14.16 | 3:25 PM
Across the state, people are throwing water into the air and watching as it instantly turns to ice, a nifty trick only possible in the coldest of conditionsWhile record-setting winter cold might not seem like any fun, some are taking advantage of the sub-zero temperatures on this chilly Day. New Hampshire /2016/02/14 passengers evacuated from stranded mountain trams frigid temperatures.

Life threatening cold wave  sweeps across north-east US. Temperature in Boston dropped to -21.7 C overnight but feel as cold as -34.4 C with the wind chill.  That is record low of -19.4 C set in 19979. Over nine states effected from northern Pennsylvania to western Maine with guests up to 72 kph. New York city bracing to coldest night in 20 years.
14 Feb 2016 Sunday Morning:
Mild tremors were felt in several villages of Vinjamur area in Nellore district on Sunday morning. The tremors lasted a few seconds, even as the people ran out of their houses. The residents of Chakalikonda, Bathivaripalem and other hamlets felt the impact of the tremors, but soon recovered from the mild shock. This is the sixth time that very low intensity tremors are being reported in this upland area located east of Udayagiri fort. Following a series of tremors in the region, scientists of the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) made a field study in the area a few weeks ago. They said that the local people need not worry about the tremors as they were progressively decreasing in their intensity.

I felt very shaky and decided to have rest, postponing slightly the act of offering milk, kept ready by 6.25 AM, to the Sun God and dumping it in the ground before the just Sun rise. It was  14 Feb 2016, Ratha Sapthami  day of Sun God.
Gravitational Waves?

Gravitational Waves Chirps have been recorded quite accidently at 11:50 AM central European time, on September 14, 2015, termed as a chance discovery, on the experimental run of LIGO apparatus. Begin collecting data on the September 18, 2015 officially. Gravitational waves can pass through the universe unobstructed, so they carry information which cannot be obtained otherwise. These waves pass freely the hot plasma of the early universe, so scientists can use them to gain insight into what occurred during that otherwise invisible time.

The oscillations began at 35 cycles per second and rapidly increased to 250Hz it then became chaotic and rapidly died down. The whole thing was over within one-fourth of a second, journal Science notes. The magazine Science, notes that the gravitational waves stretched space, making the entire Earth expand and contract by 1/100,000 of a nano-meter about the width of an atomic nucleus. Black holes that merged were only 36 times and 29 times the mass of the Sun, but the fused black hole weighed only 62 solar masses, and not 65 solar masses. The three solar masses, which went missing were created the Gravitational waves.

When black holes orbiting around each other, collided and merged into a single massive black hole. The ripples in the fabric of space-time, caused by the orbiting black holes, travelled outward as gravitational waves. Gravitational waves produced when objects accelerate. According to Theory of General Relativity, the pair of black holes, orbiting around each other lost energy through the emission of gravitational waves. As the holes lost energy, they were gravitationally drawn closer to each other. As they came closer, the spinning becomes faster, and they emit even more gravitational waves and lost even more energy. At the end of 20 millisecond of data, they were whirling around each other so fast, that each orbit lasted just a few milliseconds, thus the black holes had whipped up before colliding and merging into one bigger black hole. The total power output of gravitational waves during the brief collision was 50 times greater than all of the stars in the universe put together, said Kip Thorne of Caltech said the New Scientist.

The collision was so violent, even that it radiated more energy in the form of gravitational waves than all the stars in the observable universe emitted a light in the same amount of time says Nature magazine.

CONCLUSION
Gravitational Ripples, observed at 11:50 AM,  Central European Time on September 14, 2015   released from the impact join of two black holes orbiting one another circling and speeding up in a split second they spiral collided . A huge cataclysmic burst of energy is released, more than all  the stars in the universe  are putting out that instant. A new black hole with a mass of 62 suns is formed. It is larger than each of the ones that merged.  The black holes that merged are of the masses, 36 and 29 Solar masses, resultant less massive, by three solar masses, suggesting that the equivalent of 3 solar masses were carried away in the form of gravitational Wave? The present author feels that the released energy waded away as ripples but not as waves!
