The sea in Andhra Pradesh at  Mukkal moved forward on 1 Jan. 2018 night and frightened people till Tuesday 2 Jan. 2018 morning.. Out of 44 taxa, 31 species and 13 varieties of genus Hedychium, found in India, only five are reported in South India. Haryana goes on overdrive, to promote Vedic maths in schools, and universities. Winter storm Eleanor barrels through Europe, causes widespread damage and disruptions. Winter storm Eleanor swept across Europe on Wednesday, causing widespread damage and disruptions.  Jan 04, 2018 00:00 IST: First snow in Florida in 29 years. Heavy snow and ice, fell from Florida in the southeast up to New England and the Northeast on Wednesday and Thursday. Cyclone Ockhi was the first to travel 2400km in almost in 40 years.  Severe cyclonic storm from Bay of Bengal travelled round India to as far as the Gujarat coast.  The observations have been combined with optical data from the Hubble space telescope (pink) and radio-emission data from the Very Large Array (red) in New Mexico. If these findings are confirmed with future observations, it would signal a major step forward in comprehending the nature of dark matter. Earlier analyses of the stone revealed that it contains micromineral compounds that are not found anywhere on the planet or any known meteorite. The compounds are not even found elsewhere in the solar system. 10,000 FRBs happening per day, or a radio flash every 10 seconds. They may arise from a neutron star near a very powerful magnetic field, which may be proximity to massive black hole or within a powerful nebula. 13 Jan: Serious damage was reported from Kotadeniyawa after gale-force winds swept across the area during a heavy downpour yesterday; 15 houses have been damaged. Due to the Makara Sankranti burning of wood etc., in the early morning on 13 Jan 2018. In Florida Lguanas dropping from trees because of the cold wave sweeping the USA. 14 Jan 2018: The recovery of the ozone layer, due to lack of chlorine from chlorofluorocarbon, each year between 2005 and 2016, would fully recover by 2080.

Hedychium chingmetanum a epiphytic plant that grows on tall trees, reddish stems and creamy white flowers, located in Nagaland, the other Caulokaempferia was found growing in rock crevices, boulders, humus rich soil in the Shirul Hill at elevation of 2,938 meters in Manipur. Out of 44 taxa, 31 species and 13 varieties of genus Hedychium, found in India, only five are reported in South India.  Caulokaempferia has beautiful oval-shaped pink flowers which appear in June-July.
Jan. 1, 2018: EARTH'S NATIVE SOUND: The data was collected between 2012 and 2013, but it was only after experts filtered out interfering sounds from sea waves and electronics on two specific sites that they were finally able to hear the Earth's native sound. Despite this, it is still virtually undetectable to the human ear, as it the sound doesn't exceed 4.5 milli-hertz a frequency that is 10,000 times lower than what humans can hear.
Supermoon on 2 Jan. 2018, with perigee at 3.34 PM with its distance from Earth would be 3,56,565 km and it will be illuminated 99.9%  the full moon phase comes about 4.5 hours later at 7.54 PM. he Moon will be at 3,56,846 km from Earth. HUNDRED YEAR’S FEAT: Cyclone Ockhi was the first to travel 2400 km in almost in 40 years.  Severe cyclonic storm from Bay of Bengal travelled round India to as far as the Gujarat coast. It formed as a depression over south west Bay of Bengal on November 29, 2017, intensified into a cyclone off the Kanyakumari coast in Tamil Nadu, on November 30, and travelled to Gujarat, before it dissipated on December 6, as a low-pressure area.  In three decades this a severe cyclone storm to have travelled 2400 km, a century ago a similar or longer distances than Ockhi occurred nearly a century ago. It had copious rainfall especially in southern districts of Tamil Nadu, with Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari, getting 42% and 23% excess rainfall during the north-east Monsoon season.
6 Jan. 2018: BOSTON/NEW YORK: A shroud of bone-chilling arctic air covered the U.S. East Coast and Midwest on Saturday, creating dangerous conditions as tens of millions of people struggled to clean up from a blizzard that dumped deep, drifting snow in many areas earlier this week. Wind chill and freeze warnings stretched from New England to Ohio and Pennsylvania, while the National Weather Service warned of freezing rain in Missouri and areas to the northeast. The cold snap complicated efforts by crews to clear snow and ice from roadways after the blizzard, which clobbered the Northeast after sprinkling snow in areas as far south as Savannah, Georgia and Tallahassee, Florida. In New England and the Middle Atlantic states, the storm forced hundreds of schools to close and commuter rail services to suspend or reduce service. Cold and snowy weather was blamed for at least 18 deaths in the past few days, including four in North Carolina traffic.
Jan 6 (IANS) Beijing, China has maintained its blue alert for intense snowfall in the central parts of the country, which has so far killed 13 people, The agency said it expected blizzards to dump 4 to 8 centimetres of snow in parts of Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, Anhui and Hubei provinces and some areas could be hit with more than 10 centimetres.

January 10, 2018: There is no longer a tsunami threat for the Caribbean and Central America after a magnitude-7.6 earthquake struck 27 miles (43 km) off the coast of Honduras, the US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said Wednesday. Waves reaching 0.3 to 1 meter above the tide level had been possible, but the agency said the threat had passed.
10 Jan 2018: A small pebble discovered in Egypt is challenging current understanding of the solar system. The analysis suggests that the diamond-filled stone has extra terrestrial origins and contains compounds that predate the  Sun.  The Hypatia stone was picked up from the Libyan Desert Glass Field and named after the ancient astronomer Hypatia of Alexandria. Earlier analyses of the stone revealed that it contains micromineral compounds that are not found anywhere on the planet or any known meteorite. The compounds are not even found elsewhere in the solar system. Now, findings of a new study published in Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta found that the alien rock also lacks silicate minerals, which make it more unique from other known materials in the solar system. The stone also contains minerals that appear to predate the Sun.
Jan. 11, California: Anxious family members awaited word on loved ones Wednesday as rescue crews searched for more than a dozen people missing after mudslides in Southern California destroyed an estimated 100 houses, swept away cars and left at least 17 victims dead. A dozen people were hospitalized at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and four of them were in critical condition, Dr. Brett Wilson said. The deluge destroyed 100 houses and damaged 300 others, Santa Barbara County authorities said. Eight commercial properties were destroyed and 20 damaged.
11 Jan 2018: The intense vibrations triggered a massive chain of landslides along the Yarlung-Tsangpo river. Several satellites have taken images showing approximately a 100 sq km area of landslides. The volume of material lost is yet unknown. The satellites have captured dust and debris in the air, indicating that landslides continued even 20 days after the earthquakes struck. This landslide area is 400 km upstream from Pasighat, the headquarters of East Siang district, and 200 km from Geling near the international border with China. The affected part of the river is 30 km in length.
11 Jan 2018: UV Exposure: Wearable device that monitors UV exposure scientists have discovered  the world's smallest device - wafer thin, feather-light sensor- that can fit on a finger nail and precisely measure a person's exposure to UV light from the Sun.

Origin of mysterious radio bursts revealed:  Astronomers believe that the mysterious fast radio bursts (FRB) are flashed from a dense stellar core called a neutron star near a powerful magnetic field such as one near a massive black hole. FRBs are intense pulses of radio waves lasting just milliseconds. They give off more energy in a fraction of a second than the Sun does in hours, days or weeks. There are about 10,000 FRBs happening per day, or a radio flash every 10 seconds. They may arise from a neutron star near a very powerful magnetic field, which may be proximity to massive black hole or within a powerful nebula.
