It drizzled in the evening of March 1, 2019, at the beach resort of Visakhapatnam, for about an hour around 6.45PM.
Mar 01, 2019: Modi will also lay the foundation stone for restoring rail connectivity between Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi, where the railway station was submerged in a 1964 cyclone. With the town submerged as well, the place was almost abandoned since. Except for the tourists, who visited Dhanushkodi to see the remnants of the abandoned township.
March 1, 2019: How a small town near Mumbai has lived through over 1,000 earthquakes in four months. In Maharashtra’s Palghar district, tremors have become a frequent occurrence since November 2018. Their magnitude has ranged between 1.6 and 3.9 on the Richter scale – typically, one can feel it beyond 1 or 1.5, seismologists said. Dhundalwadi village, some 60 km from Palghar city, has been identified as the epicentre. Around 250 houses out of the nearly 600 surveyed by village officials in the area were found to be damaged. Four months on, tired of waiting for the tremors to stop, some schools have constructed makeshift tents for their boarders and moved their beds there.  But if the vessels clank and the furniture shakes, rush to safety! There are other signs, too. For instance, if colonies of ants rush out of their nests in a hurry, a tremor is around the corner, say villagers. Needless to say, none of these is foolproofly. On January 28 placed accelerometers in and around Dhundalwadi, a device used to measure tremors, has noticed that the quakes are typically originating from a depth of 12-13km beneath the earth’s surface. The Indian plate is moving in the north-east direction and is colliding with the other plates, leading to the jolts. Therefore, these are tectonic in nature.

Fig.2 SMASH THEORY 3+1+1+1=6 new particles.
SMASH is actually a bottom-up design. SMASH adds a total of six new particles to the standard model: 1. three heavy right-hand neutrinos, 2. an additional quark and 3. a so-called axion and 4. the heavy particle Rho (ρ). The latter two particles are described by a new field that passes through the entire universe. With these extensions, the researchers can solve five problems: The Axion is a candidate for Dark Matter, which is more than five times as frequent as the familiar matter described by the standard model, according to astrophysical observations in the universe; The heavy neutrinos explain the mass of the already known, very light neutrinos, and the Rho, in conjunction with the Higgs particle, causes the so-called inflation, in which the very young universe, which has hitherto been unexplained, has suddenly expanded by at least a hundred quadrillion times. In addition, SMASH gives explanations of why there is so much more matter in our universe than antimaterial, although in the Big Bang both must have arisen in the same quantity and why, with the strong force, one of the fundamental interactions, no violation of the so-called CP symmetry is observed can be. Overall, a complete, consistent picture of the history of the universe from inflation to today is emerging. And unlike many older models, you can calculate the most important values very precisely, for example the time when the universe re-heats after inflation.
March 6, 2019 07:00 IST:Heat wave warning in AP for next 48 hours.  Reportedly the heat wave condition will now intensify as dry weather is prevailing across the state, where some parts of north coastal Andhra may witness thunderstorm activity. Notwithstanding this, temperatures will go up and humidity will also intensify. Further as days go by coastal Andhra Pradesh will experience heat wave conditions.
March 6, 2019: 17:46 [IST]:  Dams in Maharashtra have only 32.88 per cent water stock of their total storage capacity as of now, almost 14 per cent less compared to last year. The situation is particularly worrisome in Aurangabad division (falling under the arid Marathwada region) where currently the water stock is just seven per cent against 42.67 per cent around the same time last year.

Mar 8, 2019: 20:11 IS: Researchers may have found the weight of the Milky Way.  According to the latest measurements, the Milky Way may weigh about 1.5 trillion solar mass(where one solar mass is the mass of our sun). However, only a small percentage of this is contributed by the approximately 200 billion stars in the Milky Way and includes a 4 million solar mass supermassive black hole at the center. Most of the remaining mass is locked up in dark matter, an invisible and mysterious substance that acts like scaffolding throughout the universe and keeps the stars in their galaxies. The milky way’s mass of 1.5 trillion solar masses is comparatively normal for a galaxy of its brightness.

9 Mar, 2019:  Winter Rain in Greenland is Melting its Ice, Raising Fears About Sea Level Rise. Recent satellite pictures revealed that almost 70% of the contribution made by Greenland to sea level rise has come from melted water, and not ice. With global warming, each year, Greenland’s 1.7 million square km ice sheet excises 270 billion tons of ice that goes into the oceans and seas. Between 1992 and 2011, the global sea level has been raised roughly by 7.5 mm by the lost ice of Greenland. Roughly half of the ice that was lost in the period occurred at the ice sheet’s edge and in the form of icebergs cleaving from the glaciers. But the trend has changed now and recent satellite pictures reveal that almost 70% of the contribution made by Greenland to sea level rise has come from melted water, and not ice. Meltwater that comes from surface melting dominated Greenland’s ice lost in 2011, doubling Greenland’s contribution to sea level rise. Global warming has accelerated this process and over the last 30 years, the average air temperature of the ice sheet has gone up by as much as 1.8C in summer and up to 3C in winter.

March 12, 2019: 6:41 pm: Patna Girl Builds Biogas Plants in Villages, Provides Electricity to Poor Farmers! It was the prevalence of many social and environmental issues that drove this young woman on an extraordinary path towards social development. That was a devastating eye-opener for me. The two weeks that I was there, I observed no households had toilets neither did they have any proper power supply. Which meant, the women had to cook food before nightfall as their farmer husbands finished their farming activities by that time. One thing that had particularly affected me was that these families consumed their meals cold because they had to finish preparing dinner while there was still natural light.
Mar 12, 2019: 07:56 AM IST: Traces of 'enormous solar storm' that hit earth 2,600 ago found in Greenland.  The team of scientists, which examined the chemicals preserved in Greenland ice sheet, concluded that the storm was nearly 10 times stronger than anything detected in past 70 years of modern measurements. The team made this observation after studying a band of radioactive elements, unleashed by a storm that struck the planet in 660 BC, preserved in the ice nearly half a kilometre beneath the surface.
March 12, 2019: 11:56 IST: Novel quantum sensor to help improve communication, remote sensing. The device will help long-range 3D imaging and monitoring of cancer treatments.  The researchers created an array of tapered nanowires that turn incoming photons into electric current that can be amplified and detected. This device uses Indium Phosphide (InP) nanowires. Changing the material to Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs), for example, can extend the bandwidth even further towards telecommunications wavelengths while maintaining performance.

The drums trapped the gas and began to rise, as the pressure inside them increased. This gas was then extracted from the drums with the help of pipes which were connected to the stove, and a valve could tap it as per the requirement.
March 13, 2019: 4:34 pm: The system was praised by local media that termed it ‘gutter gas’. It helped Ramu Tea-stall earn four times its previous income without a dependence on LPG. The six-unit system was set up at the cost of Rs 5,000 and extracted 200 litres of gas. While some customers were sceptic about the use of gutter gas, the business only grew when the taste or quality of the tea wasn’t compromised. Moreover, it was a sustainable way of turning waste into wealth.

13 March, 2019: From cosmic dust to the origin of our solar system. Dust rings discovered near Mercury and Venus’s orbits could be studied to understand the origin of planets. Cosmic dust or star dust has been floating all across space — either as scattered particles or in condensed rings. The rings usually form when dust grains are pulled into a planet’s orbit due to its gravitational force. “interplanetary dust could deliver tiny organisms from far-off worlds to Earth, or send Earth-based organisms to other planets.” Instead, they discovered a haze of cosmic dust near Mercury’s orbit — forming a ring that is around 9.3 million miles wide. “People thought that Mercury, unlike Earth or Venus, is too small and too close to the Sun to capture a dust ring. They expected that the solar wind and magnetic forces from the Sun would blow any excess dust at Mercury’s orbit away.”
March 13, 2019: 11:05 [IST]: SBI Launches Doorstep Services For Senior Citizens Over 70 Years Old. The State Bank of India (SBI) has launched priced doorstep banking services for senior citizens over 75 years of age and also for customers who are differently abled, infirm or visually impaired. A fee of Rs 100 will be charged per financial transaction while non-financial transactions will cost Rs 60.
13 March 2019: Not only depletion, sparse data on Himalayan springs is also a big concern. Greater awareness, understanding and a national springs’ inventory can help achieve water security for the future. Fortunately, work to rejuvenate springs has been done in some areas in Himalayas over the past few years. But experts like Chopra opine that there is a need to generate data on all the Himalayan springs to start serious work on their rejuvenation. “Today our lack of knowledge about springs is akin to our lack of knowledge on glaciers a decade ago. We know a lot about Himalayan glaciers which was not the case in 2007-08, but we know almost nothing about springs,” Mukherji said.  This, she said, is an area which needs much research as it is crucial for water security in future. Mukherji further said that springs in Himalayan forests are depleting because of a variety of reasons. “Climate change may be one of them, but infrastructure development like road construction and hydro-power development are the major reasons behind the depletion. Seismic activities may be also contributing to it,” she said.
13 March 2019: 07:48 PM: IIT Madras Study, Pollution destroying rice, wheat crops every year.  A study led by (IIT-Madras has revealed that about 22 million tonnes (21 percent of India’s yield) of wheat and 6.5 million tonnes of rice (6 percent of India’s yield) are being destroyed each year due to surface ozone. Moreover, the states of Punjab and Haryana have borne losses pf 16% wheat and 11% rice. The plant damaging pollutant has caused an economic loss of 1.5 billion US dollars for rice while 5 billion USD for wheat. Chemical reactions between primary pollutants such as oxides of nitrogen and volatile organic compounds in the presence of sunlight result in the generation of surface ozone.

Experts Believe It’s Harappan.  The site is 300m x 300m in size and the experts found a human skeleton, they’ve estimated is around 5,000 years old. Their findings have succeeded in lending even more credence to the belief that a populous settlement once existed on this very spot. They believe the findings originate from the Harappan Civilization. Studies of the potteries, as well as rock blocks, will enhance our knowledge about the different techniques employed and the raw material used to make them.

March 15, 2019: 12:59:42 pm: Astronomers have discovered 83 quasars powered by supermassive black holes 13 billion light-years away from the Earth, from a time when the universe was less than 10 per cent of its present age. Supermassive black holes, found at the centers of galaxies, can be millions or even billions of times more massive than the Sun. While they are prevalent today, it is unclear when they first formed, and how many existed in the distant early universe. A supermassive black hole becomes visible when gas accretes onto it, causing it to shine as a “quasar.” Previous studies have been sensitive only to the very rare, most luminous quasars, and thus the most massive black holes. The new discoveries probe the population of fainter quasars, powered by black holes with masses comparable to most black holes seen in the present-day universe.
