A team of researchers from the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad have now found that the rock, which emitted a pungent smell on its fall, was a rare kind of meteorite that had only been seen in India once —170 years ago. “Our preliminary description and study suggest that the meteorite is a rare, unique specimen of aubrite,” said the researchers, after analyzing the fragments and pieces recovered from the spot. According to the study, published in the journal Current Science last month, the fragments mainly contained a mineral known as enstatite, characteristics of which were similar to what is thought to be seen on the surface of Mercury. “This rare specimen of meteorite not only improves the existing meteoritic database, but will be important for understanding the planetary processes in future,” wrote the researchers.

Yesterday 11:30 pm.Ateam of researchers led by Miyuki Kaneko at Japan's Keio University used data from the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope to identify an unusual cloud of gas about 27,000 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius. The curved 'Tadpole' shape of the molecular gas cloud strongly suggests that it is being stretched as it orbits around a massive compact object. At the center of the Tadpole's orbit, there are no bright objects which could be massive enough to gravitationally hold the Tadpole. The best candidate for this massive compact invisible object is a black hole. Because black holes don't emit light, the only way to detect them is when they interact with other objects.

The comet's head shines green, while its tail shines white. A green comet called C/2022 E3 (ZTF), or Comet ZTF for short, is nearing its closest approach to earth for the first time since the ice age. Comet ZTF will come within 26 million miles (42 million km) of our planet on Wednesday, about a third of the distance between the earth and the sun. The green comet, which last passed through the inner solar system about 50,000 years ago, will be at its brightest during this time. Like other comets, ZTF has a stunning green hue, although skygazers may be unable to see this with the naked eye. The secret of the comet's green glow lies in a molecule called diatomic carbon, C2.

In a situation similar to the sinking of Joshimath in Uttrakhand, more than 200 men, women and children have been evacuated from Nai-Basti village of the Doda district in Jammu where several residential buildings developed wide cracks as the place was sliding. The number of houses that have developed cracks have dramatically increased to 21 on Friday six days after the phenomenon was noticed. A mosque and a madrassa for girls have also been abandoned as the buildings were unsafe. The Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu are being developed as the hydroelectric generation hub of the country with several power projects coming up in the area.

Feb.10,2023:The Sun has been bursting with incessant solar activity over the recent weeks. Just over the past three days, we have seen multiple solar flare eruptions, solar storms and sunspots which are growing at an alarming rate. And now, in a shocking incident, astronomers have seen a large chunk of the Sun breaking away from its body. This incredibly rare event was followed up with the solar material rotating furiously till it reached the polar region of the star and created a massive vortex. Is this the sign of more terrifying solar storms arriving on Earth?

Feb.10,2023:The SSLV rocket was carrying ISRO's Earth Observation Satellite - EOS-07, Janus-1 belonging to ANTARIS of the US and AzaadiSat-2 belonging to Space Kidz India, Chennai. The ISRO has developed SSLV with a carrying capacity of 550 kg to the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) based on the market trend of going in for smaller satellites.The SSLV-D2 was carrying a total weight of 175.2 kg -- 156.3 kg EOS-07, 10.2 kg, Janus-1 and 8.7 kg AzaadiSAT-2 -- as its luggage. The SSLV rocket provides low-cost access to space, offers low turn-around time and flexibility in accommodating multiple satellites, and demands minimal launch infrastructure. It is configured with three solid propulsion stages and a velocity terminal module. Costing about Rs 56 crore, the SSLV rocket stands 34 meters tall, two-meter diameter vehicle having a lift-off mass of 120 ton.

The formation will comprise all variants of the Advanced Light Helicopter(ALH), 'Prachand' Light Combat Helicopter and Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), all of which are manufactured by HAL, in India. Held in the city of Bengaluru, the biennial aerospace show is touted as Asia's largest aerospace and defense show.

The latest release also indicates that El Nino conditions — often associated with a poor monsoon in India — may set in around July, earlier than what the previous month’s forecast suggested. But it’s still early days yet because a reliable picture of likely conditions during the monsoon period usually emerges only around April-May, say experts. The latest update, however, gives a 49% probability of an El Nino developing in the June-July-August period (roughly July) as opposed to a 47% chance of neutral conditions. For the July-August-September period, El Nino’s probability increases to 57%.

Feb.11,2023:An extremely religious HD Kumaraswamy reached the steps of the Gokarna Mahabaleshwar temple, only to be stopped and confronted by Narasimha Dixit, the priest of the Ganapathi temple, on his recent remarks about Brahmins. The former chief minister tried clarifying that his statement was being misconstrued and had nothing to do with the local Brahmin community, and that he was only targeting the Peshwas of Maharashtra and BJP MP Prahlad Joshi. The priest, who claimed to be speaking on behalf of the Brahmin community, expressed disappointment over Kumaraswamy’s “anti-Brahmin” statement.

Resultantly, it created a tornado-like swirl around its North Pole. It is due to the violent sunspot AR3213, which has exploded again and caused a solar flare eruption. Sunspot AR3217 is said to have a 'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field that harbors energy for X-class solar flares. And that's exactly what happened just now! A giant and powerful solar flare erupted from the surface of the Sun. Earth-orbiting satellites have just detected an X1.1-class solar flare from sunspot AR3217 on February 11 at 15:48 UTC. Extreme UV radiation ionized the top of Earth's atmosphere, causing a strong shortwave radio blackout over South America.?

The Pentagon claimed that the object carried the risk of interference with commercial air traffic and hence, it was ordered to be shot down.

Feb.13,2023:With an aim to manage multiple generators used by defence forces in operational areas, Indian Army Officer Captain Rajprasad has developed ‘Vidyut Rakshak’. 'Vidyut Rakshak' integrates and automates the operation of multiple generators from a single system remotely. It is an indigenously developed product that will be useful for the defense forces. The product was displayed by Captain Rajprasad at the Aero India show in Bengaluru, where he briefed on it. ‘Vidyut Rakshak’ is being showcased at the India Pavilion to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru.

The Hanle reserve is located around the Indian Astronomical Observatory (IAO) of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) spread over 1,073 sq km. It is one of the highest places in the world for observing celestial bodies and collecting scientific data about the universe.
