Fermi edge singularity in neutral electron–hole system. D. J. Choksy, et al. Nature Physics (2023): Abstract. In neutral dense electron–hole systems at low temperatures, theory predicted Cooper-pair-like excitons exist at the Fermi energy and form a Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer-like condensate. Optical excitations create electron–hole systems with the density controlled via the excitation power. However, the intense optical excitations required to achieve high densities cause substantial heating that prevents the realization of simultaneously dense and cold electron–hole systems in conventional semiconductors. Here we show that the separation of electron and hole layers enables the realization of a simultaneously dense and cold electron–hole system. We find a strong enhancement of photoluminescence intensity at the Fermi energy of the neutral dense ultracold electron–hole system that demonstrates the emergence of an excitonic Fermi edge singularity due to the formation of Cooper-pair-like excitons at the Fermi energy. Our measurements also show a crossover from the hydrogen-like excitons to the Cooper-pair-like excitons with increasing density, consistent with the theoretical prediction of a smooth transition.

Recently published in The Astrophysical Journal, suggests that dark matter, one of the most mysterious components of the universe, interacts with gravity in a non-local way. According to the authors, Ph.D. students Francesco Benetti and Giovanni Gandolfi, along with their supervisor Andrea Lapi, this discovery could provide a fresh perspective on the still unclear nature of dark matter.

Jul. 01, 2023: Scientists find link between surges of cosmic radiation from space and earthquakes. Ability to predict specific locations remains unclear at present. This correlation could aid in earthquake prediction by up to two weeks, however, the ability to predict specific locations remains unclear at present. Cosmic ray data shifted 15 days forward relative to seismic data can help predict earthquakes, according to researchers from the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) in Krakow, Poland.

Fig.03 Photonics.
The field of photonics has seen significant advances during the past decades, to the point where it is now an integral part of high-speed,  international communications. For charge your electric vehicles by connecting it to a tree general processing photonics is currently less common, but is the subject of significant research. Unlike most photonic
circuits which are formed using patterns etched into semiconductor mask  using lithography, purely light-based circuits are a tantalizing possibility. This is the focus of a recent paper (press release, ResearchGate) in Nature Photonics by [Tianwei Wu] and colleagues at the  University of Pennsylvania.

Jul. 08, 2023: Astronomers taken by surprise as black hole ‘switches on’ dramatically. Science Desk • Yesterday 4:56 pm. A team of astronomers has discovered what is the most dramatic “switching on” of a black hole that they have ever seen. J221951-484240, or J221951 in short, is one of the most luminous transient events ever observed in space, according to the Royal Astronomical Society. Transient events are objects in space that change their brightness over a short period of time. This particular one was discovered by researchers looking for electromagnetic light from a gravitational event. They were using the ultraviolet and Optical telescope on the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory to search for a kilonova. A kilonova is a sign of a neutron star merging with another neutron star or a black. They typically appear blue before fading and turning redder in colour over a period of days. But J221951 was different—it did appear blue in the beginning but did not change colour or fade rapidly as a kilonova should.

While the founding date of the temple is unknown, historical records show that it underwent restoration in the 17th and 18th centuries, according to the Tribune.

Jul,11, 2023:ABSTRACT: Bose-Einstein condensation of excitons, in which excitons condense into a single coherent quantum state, known as an exciton condensate, enables frictionless energy transfer, but typically occurs under extreme conditions in highly ordered materials, such as graphene double layers. In contrast, photosynthetic light-harvesting complexes demonstrate extremely efficient transfer of energy in disordered systems under ambient conditions. Here, we establish a link between the two phenomena by investigating the potential for exciton-condensate-like amplification of energy transport in room-temperature light harvesting. Using a model of the Fenna-Matthews-Olson complex and accounting for intrachromophore electron correlation explicitly through the addition of multiple sites to the individual chromophores, we observe amplification of the exciton population in the particle-hole reduced density matrix through an exciton-condensate-like mechanism. The exciton-condensate-like amplification evolves with the dynamics of exciton transfer, and the nature of amplification is influenced by intra- and interchromophore entanglement, as well as the initial excitation model and number of sites per chromophore. Tuning interchromophore coupling also increases the rate of exciton transfer with a maximum enhancement of nearly 100%. The research provides fundamental connections between exciton condensation and exciton transport in light-harvesting complexes with potential applications for harnessing the exciton-condensate-like mechanism to enhance energy transfer in synthetic systems and create new materials capable of highly efficient energy transfer.

Jul. 12, 2023:Andhra Pradesh Villages Extract Gold from Sand Waste for Livelihood.  GT Hemanta Kumar • Yesterday 8:29 pm. The mode of livelihood for many families in three villages of Andhra Pradesh is extracting gold from sand waste, which they collect from jewellery-making shops. Eguva Sambaiah Palem, Diguva Sambaiah Palem, and Kallupudi are situated in the Thottambedu mandal of the Tirupati district and about 600 among the 800 families in the villages have taken this up as their profession. The sand waste is from the jewellery shops of Bangalore and Chennai, where it is mixed with minute particles of gold. The process used for extraction requires the water to be mixed in the sand waste to make it into mud balls. The mud balls are then burnt with cow dung cakes at high temperatures after which the villagers cool them and take them to powder using machines. The powder is then put in a wooden vessel and mixed with rock salt and mercury. In the process, the gold in the powder is mixed well with the mercury but later the mercury is separated by pouring water in the mixture. The mercury is kept in a dried black cloth. Gradually, the gold mixed with mercury and other metals will be extracted. As gold with other metals gets melted at 100 degrees temperature in a furnace, the output of the same is melted with acid to separate the gold from the other metals.

Jul. 14, 2023: New cruise ships to turn solid waste to energy at sea; Read how. Yesterday 9:00 pm.

Jul. 14, 2023: Did you know that the largest cruise ships in the world could soon be leading the way in repurposing waste for energy generation? Royal Caribbean Group's newest ships, including Royal Caribbean International's Icon of the Seas and Silversea Cruises' Silver Nova, will feature innovative systems that directly convert solid waste into energy onboard. These groundbreaking systems, known as Microwave-Assisted Pyrolysis (MAP) and Micro Auto Gasification (MAG), will enable the ships to convert waste into synthesis gas (syngas) that can be used as a direct source of energy. This sustainable approach mirrors the operations of land-based waste-to-energy facilities, promoting efficient and eco-friendly waste repurposing. Additionally, the systems produce biochar, a byproduct that can serve as a nutrient for soil.

Made by bacteria, the enzyme can service in soil, in the ocean, in volcanic craters, and even in Antarctica. This marks the first time scientists have created electricity from it. How does it conjure electricity, you wonder? Scientists say that Huc works as a hydrogen gas scavenger, implying that unlike other known enzymes, Huc can consume the gas below atmospheric levels.
