ABSTRACT

Sydney swelters through hottest December 16, 2016 night on record.  Indian Scientist S. Bhattacharyya, from TIFR with a co-author from MIT, US claims that a neutron star can emit continuously the Gravitational Waves, a break-through finding. A 7.9R earthquake struck Papua New Guinea on Saturday, 17 Dec 2016, but no immediate casualties were reported. The earthquake struck 60 km to the east of Taron, New Ireland, at 8h51m PM local time (1051 GMT) at a depth of some 75 km. Huge dead zone estimated 60,000 sq. km found near Bay of Bengal, an area with no oxygen or just little oxygen, some 10,000 times less than that found in the air-saturated surface waters, and supports microbial processes that remove vast amounts of nitrogen from the ocean. A controversial theory suggests gravity is not a fundamental force of nature at all, but rather an 'emergent phenomenon'. This year the solstice occurs on Wednesday December 21st at 10:44 GMT (Universal time). On Dec 22,  the world's first solar highway has been opened in Normandy France, in the not-very-sunny village of Tourouvre au Perche in Normandy. The roadway is just one kilometre (0.6mi) long, but that still works out at 2,800 square metres of photovoltaic cells. The hurricane force 120mph winds of Storm Barbara have battered on 23 Dec. in UK today even tipping over lorries in the north.  It was said on Dec 24 that the ten Delhi Metro stations to go cashless from January 1, 2017. All these stations have over 70 percent Smart Card users. A typhoon slammed into central Philippines late on Sunday, bringing strong winds and heavy rains and cutting off power, but there were no immediate reports of casualties. Typhoon Nock-ten was packing maximum sustained winds of 115 mph (185 km/h) with gusts up to 140 mph (255 km/h) when it made landfall over Catanduanes province, which was under the highest storm alert, on the Bicol peninsula on Sunday evening. The typhoon made a second landfall over Camarines Sur province, then weakened slightly with winds of 109 mph (175 km/h) but gusts at 180 mph (290 km/h).  Another slight intensity earthquake of 3.5R has jolted Uttarkashi district on Monday 26 Dec 2016, afternoon, fifth tremor in the current month. The quake was mainly felt around Purola tehsil on Uttarkashi-Dehradun border. Earthquake tremors of 3.2 magnitude felt in Mandi, at 05:55 on Dec 27, in Himachal Pradesh. On 27 December 2016 at 12:31 am. M 4.6R, 150km NW of Kota Ternate, Indonesia: Time: 2016-12-26 21:36:34 UTC. 2016-12-27 05:36:34 +08:00 at epicentre: Location: 1.867°N 126.545°E: Depth 34.24 km (21.28 mi).  Shimla a second time within the season of 2016 gets a Snowfall at 09:24 on the 27 Dec. An MIRV payload technically means that a single Agni-VI will be capable of carrying several nuclear warheads, each programmed to hit different targets. In between, the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) is also expected to conducts user-trials of the 4,000-km Agni-IV missile, in the first week of January in India. During the last five days 25 to 31 Dec., the Visakhapatnam city was experiencing very cold weather and the sun light was very meagre and weather remained cloudy, but with the subdued sun light throughout the day. An earthquake 6.2R under water struck on Friday 30 Dec. off the island of Sumbawa, Indonesia.  On 31 Dec 2016 the Visakhapatnam felt very cold but the night temperatures were 1 to 2 degrees higher.

Satellites help discover a jet stream in the Earth's core

A jet stream within the Earth's molten iron core has been discovered by scientists using the latest satellite data that helps create an 'x-ray' view of the planet. Swarm satellites are providing our sharpest x-ray image yet of the core. We've not only seen this jet stream clearly for the first time, but we understand why it's there. We can explain it as an accelerating band of molten iron circling the North Pole, like the jet stream in the atmosphere, said Dr Livermore, from the School of Earth and Environment at Leeds. Because of the core's remote location under 3,000 kilometres of rock, for many years scientists have studied the Earth's core by measuring the planet's magnetic field, one of the few options available. Previous research had found that changes in the magnetic field indicated that iron in the outer core was moving faster in the northern hemisphere, mostly under Alaska and Siberia. But new data from the Swarm satellites has revealed these changes are actually caused by a jet stream moving at more than 40 kilometres per year.

Huge dead zone estimated 60,000 sq. km found near Bay of Bengal, an area with no oxygen or just little oxygen, some 10,000 times less than that found in the air-saturated surface waters, and supports microbial processes that remove vast amounts of nitrogen from the ocean. Dead zones are well known off the western coasts of North and South America, off the coast of Namibia and off the west coast of Indian in the Arabian Sea.

A 5.7 MAGNITUDE earthquake followed by 37 aftershocks rattled Ecuador’s Pacific coast before dawn, causing three deaths and heavy damage to hotels and homes in resort towns. The quake struck in the Pacific off Atacames and was followed by aftershocks registering as high as 4.2, the Geophysical Institute reported. It said the earthquake hit 5.7 after first reporting its magnitude was 5.8. The quakes knocked out electricity in several areas of Esmeraldas but power was later restored.

GRAVITY NOT FUNDAMENTAL FORCE
A theory published earlier this year claims our understanding of gravity, that was first proposed by Einstein, could be completely wrong. Now for the first time, this controversial theory has been tested experimentally and has held its ground. An independent study of the distribution of gravity around more than 30,000 galaxies found evidence to back the theory and if confirmed, it could rewrite physics entirely. Professor Erik Verlinde from the University of Amsterdam published the 'Verlinde's hypothesis of gravity', earlier this year. The paper was an attempt to solve the mystery of Dark Matter. When studying stars and galaxies, astronomers have found the forces of gravity appear stronger than expected. The outer regions of galaxies, like our own Milky Way, rotate much faster around the centre than can be accounted for by the quantity of ordinary matter like stars, planets and interstellar gasses. Traditionally, physicists have explained this inconsistency by assuming there must be something else out there we cannot see called dark matter. Dark Matter particles have never been observed, despite many efforts to detect them, and astronomers currently infer their presence through observing certain gravitational effects on the matter we can see. Professor Verlinde says we need to rethink gravity, removing Dark Matter from the equation completely. To do so, his controversial theory suggests gravity is not a fundamental force of nature at all, but rather an 'emergent phenomenon'.

This year the solstice occurs on Wednesday December 21, at 10:44 GMT (Universal time). The winter solstice happens every year when the Sun reaches its most southerly declination of -23.5 degrees. In other words, when the North Pole is tilted farthest, 23.5 degrees, away from the Sun, delivering the fewest hours of sunlight of the year.

SANKARACHARYA, BUDDHA AND KAABALIKAS
Sankara’s time marked the ascendancy of the Buddhists and the Kaabalikas. (Refer Sankara’s Lakshmi Narasimha Karavalamba Stotram). Even Nammazhwar refers to the avatara of Buddha as a mask put on by Vishnu in order to sow the seeds of doubt, dissension and heresy amongst non-believers as a chastisement for their folly and subsequent redemption. (Kalla Vedam Pugundhu, Chapter 5 10-4- Thiruvaimozhi).

World's First Solar Road Opens in Normandy, France. The world's first solar highway has been opened in France, in the not-very-sunny village of Tourouvre au Perche in Normandy. The roadway is just one kilometre (0.6mi) long, but that still works out at 2,800 square metres of photovoltaic cells, enough, hopefully, to power the village's street lights. The road was built by Colas, a large Anglo-French construction company. Colas has apparently been working on its own solar road tech, called Wattway, for at least five years.  Wattway has been tested in car parks, but this is the first time it has been used on an active road. There will now be a two-year test period, to see if Wattway can withstand the rigour of being pounded by thousands of cars and trucks per day, and whether it can actually provide a useful amount of electricity.

Fig.5 The surprising snow fall in Sahara desert on Dec 22, 2016
Most of Britain may not see a white Christmas this year, but the SAHARA could after snow fell on the desert for only the second time, in living memory. Red sands turned white as icy flakes fell near the small Algerian town of Ain Sefra yesterday afternoon. The last time snow fell on the dunes of the Sahara, the world's largest hot desert, was 37 years ago. The amazing sight was documented in pictures by amateur photographer Karim Bouchetata. Snow was last seen in Ain Sefra, known as the Gateway to the Desert, on February 18, 1979. Then, the snow storm lasted just half an hour. But this time flakes stayed for about day in the town, which is around 1,000 metres above sea level and surrounded by the Atlas Mountains.

EARTH'S CRUST
In what is being described as a kind of 'jet stream' of molten iron surging 3000 km below the surface, scientists have come a lot closer to understanding the earth's crust. The discovery was made by a trio of European Space Agency’s Swarm satellites that mapped the earth's magnetic field to collect data. This stream, reported to be about 420-km wide, is currently flowing westwards below Alaska and Siberia.

Sunday 25 Dec. 2016: MANILA:       A typhoon slammed into central Philippines late on Sunday, bringing strong winds and heavy rains and cutting off power, but there were no immediate reports of casualties. Typhoon Nock-ten was packing maximum sustained winds of 115 mph (185 kph) with gusts up to 140 mph (255 kph) when it made landfall over Catanduanes province, which was under the highest storm alert, on the Bicol peninsula on Sunday evening. The typhoon made a second landfall over Camarines Sur province, then weakened slightly with winds of 109 mph (175 kph) but gusts at 180 mph (290 kph). About 20 major typhoons pass through the Philippines each year. Since 1948, at least seven have hit during the Christmas period.

SANTIAGO, Chile, Dec., 25, 2016 at 11:29 AM ET

A powerful earthquake shook southern Chile on Sunday, prompting officials to order an evacuation of coastal areas to guard against a possible tsunami. The U.S. Geological Survey put the quake's magnitude at 7.6 and said it struck at 11:22 a.m. local time near the southern tip of Chiloe Island, about 25 miles south-southwest of Puerto Quello and at a depth of 22 miles. The area, some 800 miles south of the capital of Santiago, is relatively sparsely populated.
Almost exactly six months after the Nepal earthquake that killed nearly 10,000 people, an earthquake of similar magnitude hit north-west Afghanistan today, tremors of which were felt through most of north India, including New Delhi. Today’s earthquake, measured 7.5 on the Richter scale, had its epicentre at a place about 50 km southwest of the city of Jarm near Afghanistan’s border with Tajikistan. The place is about 254 km north-east of Kabul. The earthquake originated about 210 km below the earth’s surface.

According to reports, the soon-to-be-launched Agni-VI missile will be armed with manoeuvring warheads or intelligent re-entry vehicles to defeat enemy defence systems or MIRVs (multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicles). An MIRV payload technically means that a single Agni-VI will be capable of carrying several nuclear warheads, each programmed to hit different targets. In between, the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) is also expected to conducts user-trials of the 4,000-km Agni-IV missile, in the first week of January.

ABSTRACT:  Hindu discoverers, identified the Gravity (Gurutva Akarshana) by observing the fall off a Coconut, from the tree near the beach shore of an Ocean, to postulate the existence of a Shakti (force), termed the centric that holds the world. They haven’t identified mass as a means of the attractive spectacle. Moreover, they asserted the Shakti in terms of time, it takes for the Coconut to fall down from the tree. Of course, Newton thought of a falling apple on the ground. The difference between them is presence of an Ocean! And the time of fall. Gurutva Akarshana Shakti, is what Hindu originators, termed it. “Graviton Ripples” is a subject by itself, devoid of the thoughts of usual Gravitation and its manifestations. Projection of it as an independent entity, though being a part of Gravitation that holds the entire universe is a marvellous departure from the conventional notion of Gravitation and its existence. Gravitational Waves, devoid of Einstein thoughts, is a presently an astounding feature in literature, and many experiments are being devised and studied, in recent times to ascertain the happenings in the Galaxy medium. Conversion of the combination of Black Holes, within fraction of a second, to newer stupendous objects and release of mass-energy has been observed by eminent scientists’ world over. Newer findings are being reported in literature. Gravity disturbances, the present author feels, as the aftershocks following a major Earthquake. Are these in fact Gravity Ripples? Do these ripples traverse the outside universe as well? Microgravity in space, has it any connection, with the happenings in the universe elsewhere? Solid State Earthquakes and the free enterprise of the Gravity Ripples, have anything common in their occurrence? In my opinion “Gravity Ripples” differ from Gravitational Waves. It is bizarre thought to relate topological rangadhama quanta high Tc superconductivity with the gravity disturbances on the earth or earth-like bodies in the universe. The time scales of happenings on the earth or earth-like objects for the topological R-quanta and superconductivity, need to be addressed carefully, since the disturbances do have a slow moving earthly materials.

ABSTRACT

New finding, by TIFR scientists, of Superconductivity in Bismuth at 530 micro Kelvin, challenging existing theories. The first December 2016 to 3 Dec, at Visakhapatnam temperature is high but endowed with whooping gales of chilli wind sequel to the onset of cyclone affect to Tamil Nadu. Farmers happy in Andhra Pradesh that the karif season cultivation would progress with these rains. Tremors were felt in parts of Uttarakhand this evening after a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck near Nepal-India border. The epicentre of the earthquake was 24 kilometre north east of Dharchula in Uttarakhand. The earthquake struck at 10:22 pm, on Dec 1, and at a depth of nearly 30 kilometres. Earlier in the day, an earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale had hit the Kullu region in Himachal Pradesh. The earthquake had occurred at 4.12 AM, they said. Earlier in the day, an earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale had hit the Kullu region in Himachal Pradesh.                    The discovery demands a new theory and a new mechanism to understand Super-Conductivity in Bismuth at 530 micro-Kelvin i.e. about -273 C published in Science. Bismuth has unusual phenomenon, while metallic Superconductors have one mobile electron per atom, bismuth has only one mobile electron per 1, 00, 000 atoms. Since carrier density so small, but Bismuth electronic energy, Fermi Energy, is comparable to the lattice, phonon, energy. Om Prakash Shukla, from TIFR, is the leading author.

GALAXIES FROM COLD GAS 2 Dec 2016
They found that the central, larger galaxy was surrounded by an "enormous halo" of very cold gas with stars forming inside it. It was not yet clear exactly how the cold gas cloud came to be around the Spiderweb galaxy, but that it couldn't have come from the Big Bang because of its high carbon monoxide content.

CHEAP METHOD TO PRODUCE NUCLEAR FUEL: News 3 Dec 2016 The Hindu
Scientists in Russia have developed a unique, low-cost method for producing high-quality nuclear fuel using electricity. The main type of fuel for nuclear power reactors is the uranium oxide pellet composition, said Ivan Tananaev, from the Far Eastern Federal University School of Natural Sciences. It is produced from a powder by granulation, pressing, and sintering (coalescing into a solid or porous mass by heating) with the subsequent control of the quality and size of the pellets. Powder metallurgy: The new technology allows one to obtain products that are of high quality and to reduce the number of production stages without increasing the cost. The researchers have proposed an alternative mode of production, which forms the basis of powder metallurgy: electric pulse sintering under pressure. The key idea of our method is heating by an electric current passing through the mould with the powder placed in it, said Mr. Tananaev.
PLASTIC SOLAR CELLS Dec 03, 2016 04:41 AM EST
With plastic solar cells now competing with solar cells made from silicon in terms of their efficiency in converting power, the research team wanted to extend the range of photonic energies plastic solar cells could absorb. The lead author of the paper published in advanced materials, wanted to produce solar cells with a wider absorption range and greater efficiency. Mix each polymer separately with the fullerene, rather than mixing all three materials together at once. This would then yield two separate mixtures that were layered onto the substrate, creating sequentially cast ternary (SeCaT) solar cells. To the researchers' delight, this method was not prone to alloying. The SeCaT solar cells prevent the polymers from mixing due to their layered structure. This novel design allows fabrication of plastic solar cells with wider optical sensitivity using cheap and scalable processing steps and with reduced materials selection constraints. Hopefully, this new method can be particularly useful for greenhouse applications toward zero energy farming, as the materials used to demonstrate our method have optical properties compatible with applications.

More than 100,000 people challenge
Einstein in a unique worldwide quantum physics experiment.
On November 30th, for the first time, participants around the world took part in a unique worldwide experiment with the aim of testing the laws of quantum physics. Coordinated by ICFO-The Institute of Photonic Sciences, 12 laboratories from around the world collaborated for the BIG Bell Test: worldwide quantum experiments powered by human randomness with the aim of demonstrating experimentally that the nanoscale world is as strange as quantum physics predicts, consisting of particles in superstates that collapse only when observed; strange instantaneous interactions at a distance; predictions that were questioned by Einstein, who rejected them completely.
During the 48 hours during which it was November 30th somewhere on the planet, participants contributed to the initiative, generating sequences of zeros and ones through a video game to produce sequences of numbers that were as random as possible. Each of these bits was used to control the experimental conditions of the labs in real time. They moved mirrors, polarizing filters, waveplates, elements located on optical tables that affected the types of measurements made on the quantum systems in each lab.
All the participants provided scientists with millions of unpredictable, independent decisions that were used to measure their particles. This independence is a crucial feature for the conclusions of the Bell tests to be valid. Using the sequences provided by the participants, the scientists verified whether or not their particles were intertwined by the quantum entanglement that Einstein could not accept. In a nutshell, the Bell test states that experimentalists have to conduct their measurements with the help of human decisions and calculate the "Bell parameter" (also known as the parameter S). If the universe is predictable and without quantum entanglement, then S cannot be greater than two. That is, S should always be less than two. Otherwise, the inequality has been violated, indicating the presence of intrinsic quantum phenomena.

ENGLAND
Worst of bad weather thought to be over but more heavy rain expected, with 75 flood warnings in place across the UK. Rail services in the south-west and northern England were badly hit by the aftermath of Storm Angus at the weekend and Monday’s 5 Dec 2016 torrential rain. In the north of England, rail services from Manchester to Sheffield, Leeds and Scotland were disrupted by problems including a fallen power line in Oxenholme, the station that serves the Lake District.

Water-Wave Laser
According to the study published in the journal Nature Photonics, the creation of the water-wave laser is the first time that two unrelated fields of study, nonlinear optics and water waves, are combined.  The researchers designed a special device where an optical fiber delivers light via droplets of octane and water. The tiny droplets allow the light and water waves to pass through each other more frequently, thus, creating more energy that the water-wave laser emits. To increase the interaction between the fiber optic light and the vibrations on the surface of the tiny droplets, the researchers used highly transparent runny liquids.

In April, a team of scientists including Stephen Hawking announced a mind-boggling new project to explore interstellar space, using lasers to propel a nano-spacecraft the size of a postage stamp to our nearest star system, Alpha Centauri. If they could get their little StarChip spacecraft to travel at 20 percent the speed of light, it could arrive in just 20 years. If a nano-spacecraft is going to make it all the way to Alpha Centauri intact, it'll also have to survive threats other than just radiation, such as cosmic collisions with gas and dust floating in space.

TIFR scientists discussed the eventual observation of Gravitational Waves emitted by few neutron stars continuously. The study by Professor Sudip Battachraya of TIFR and an associate from MIT,  found that a population of neutron stars should spin around their axes much faster than the highest observed spin rate of any neutron star. Only by emitting gravitational waves continuously and hence spin down. They can increase their spin rate by the transfer of matter from a normal companion star.
