ABSTRACT
Earthquake Hits off Indonesia's Island of Sumatra
REUTERS: A powerful and shallow 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck off the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Wednesday, 2 March, officials said. The U.S. Geological Service said the trembler was centred "in the ocean" at a depth of 10 k (6.2 miles) and put its epicentre at 500 miles south-west of Padang, the capital of West Sumatra province. The U.S. Geological Survey originally put the magnitude at 8.2, revising it down to 7.8.The epicentre was 808 km (502 miles) south-west of the coastal city of Padang. It was 24 km (15 miles) deep, it said, after first putting its depth at 10 km.

New York, March 1 (IANS)
Researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have
identified a new and more reliable source of acoustic-gravity waves that may
help scientists detect an upcoming tsunami early. Acoustic-gravity waves are
very long sound waves that cut through the deep ocean at the speed of sound.
These lightning-quick currents are typically triggered by violent events in the
ocean, including underwater earthquakes, explosions, landslides and even
meteorites. The researchers have now identified a less dramatic though far more
pervasive source of acoustic-gravity waves: surface ocean waves such as those
that can be seen from a beach or the deck of a boat. These waves, known as
surface-gravity waves, do not travel nearly as fast, far or deep as
acoustic-gravity waves but under the right conditions, they can generate the
powerful, fast moving, and low-frequency sound waves. "Severe sea states
such as tsunamis, rogue waves, storms, landslides and even meteorite fall, can
all generate acoustic-gravity waves," said Usama Kadri, visiting assistant
professor and a research affiliate in MIT's department of mathematics. "We
hope we can use these waves to set an early alarm for severe sea states in
general and tsunamis in particular, and potentially save lives," Kadri
added. The researchers have developed a general theory that connects gravity
waves and acoustic waves. They found that when two surface-gravity waves,
heading toward each other, are oscillating at a similar but not identical
frequency, their interaction can release up to 95 percent of their initial
energy in the form of an acoustic wave, which, in turn, carries this energy and
travels much faster and deeper. This interaction may occur anywhere in the
ocean, in particular in regions where surface-gravity waves interact as they
reflect from continental shelf breaks, where the deep-sea suddenly faces a much
shallower shoreline. Kadri derived a wave equation that includes
compressibility and gravity as well as higher-order nonlinear terms. The newly
derived wave equation allowed Kadri to study the behaviour of both acoustic and
gravity waves. Kadri and his colleague Triantaphyllos Akylas, professor of Mechanical Engineering at MIT, have published their results in the Journal of
Fluid Mechanics. According to them, the results may help scientists connect interactions
between not only surface and deep ocean waters but also with the atmospheric
forces that affect surface waves.

The
search for Sanjeevani Booti, located in Himalayas by Hanuman God, which ancient texts say is found in a remote
mountainous location, from the days of Ramayana, that rejuvenated Lakshman from death bed, has fascinated Indian botanists for centuries. While many medicines
already offered by practitioners of the 5,000-year-old discipline of Ayurveda use the name Sanjeevani, none exactly
match the ancient texts’ descriptions of the plant, which some texts claim can
glow in the dark.

BC 5000 years.
The town, as per the present author, was ruled
by Kotcherlakota Dynasty of Niyogi Brahmins. The city was only existing between
the Port entrance Hill Fort (now destroyed by British, to build their railway
line to export wealth of India) and the Mahalakshmi Temple (shifted away by
British) street. Pandavas of Mahabharat might have visited and spend their secret dwelling in this part of Andhra. Thus the city was existing since BC 5000 years ago. The First World war fought here in Ranastala (near to Srikakulam) between Andhra Kings and the Ashok King of North India army, that made the rivers here to blend red with the slain soldiers blood numbering several lakhs.

further north. The aurora borealis painted skies green, purple and blue late
Sunday and early Monday as far south as the southern English county of
Oxfordshire, as well as in some north-eastern regions of Germany. An aurora
appears when a magnetic solar wind slams into the Earth's magnetic field,
exciting electrons of oxygen and nitrogen. Amanda Townsend, a space weather
adviser for Britain's Met Office, said that "once in a while the solar
winds are enhanced to levels stronger than normal, with particles at higher
speeds." She added that "on this occasion it has connected really
well with the Earth's magnetic field".

evidence of long-dead or still-living microbes on the surface. Finding evidence
of life on Mars would greatly increase the chances of there being an abundance
of life, in the form of primitive organisms or intelligent life, elsewhere in
the Universe.
EARTH QUAKE IN NEPAL
A mild tremor measuring 4.5
magnitude on the Richter Scale today hit central Nepal as aftershocks from last
year's massive earthquake continue to jolt the country. Kathmandu
valley and adjoining districts at 3:11 AM local time. Its epicenter was located
at Selang village of Sindhupalchowk district. 441 aftershocks
with four or more magnitude have been recorded after last year’s devastating
April 25 earthquake that killed nearly 9,000 people.

NEW Bi-GRAVITY Dated 10 March 2016 [hep-th]
New Bi-Gravity from New Massive Garvity: Akhavana, M.
Alishahihab, A. Naseha, A. Nematic and A. Shirzadc, 1603.03270v1.pdf We have
also studied small fluctuations around this AdS vacuum where we have shown that
at linear level the model consists of a massless graviton and a massive spin-2
field. Indeed we have shown that upon linearization the quadratic part of the
action contains two parts: one for a massless graviton and one for a massive
spin-2 field. Denoting the coefficients of these terms by A0 and Am, respectively,
one can see that for NMG model these two factors cannot be positive. Moreover
since A0 is related to the central charge of the dual theory one generally gets
the bulk-boundary clash. Whereas for the NBG model there is a range of
parameters where both A0 and Am can be positive simultaneously.
Note: Possible existence of a second type of Gravitational Force was conjectured by the present author years ago, [in 1977 Mysore Science Congress Report local newspapers] a publication made from Shivaji University, Kolhapur-416004, where he was employed as a Professor of Physics in India.
The "cosmod" transformation proposed by the present author (KLN) in 1976-1977 relates the graviton mass with the rest mass energy of a Spin 2 elementary particle (f-meson) and I have also classified it as an element under unitary transformations of a nonet. As a result I conjectured the existence of a second kind of gravitational force and possible existence of strange quark stars etc. The conjecture was widely reported in national news papers of 1977."

GEOMAGNETIC STORM
A G1-class geomagnetic
storm is brewing on March 14 as Earth enters a zone of negative-polarity
solar wind. Magnetic fields in this region point south, a condition which can
open a crack in Earth's
magnetosphere. The
delicate pastel colours of the waves come from iridescence, the diffraction of
sunlight by tiny water droplets in the clouds. As the sun set, the colours
faded to Gray. A thin band of wavy clouds developed above a
cumulonimbus anvil and became iridescent. On
March 9, in Indonesia, it revealed itself in richly-textured detail.

EUROPE RUSSIA ON ExoMARs MISSION: Mar 15, 2016
A Russian rocket will blast off from Kazakhstan at 0930 GMT today,
launching Europe's ExoMars mission. A joint European and Russian two-part
mission to search for biochemical "fingerprints" of life on Mars,
both on the surface and in its atmosphere. Today is the launch of Exomars 2016,
and in 2018 the second part of the mission will be launched. An orbiter craft
will sniff the atmosphere for traces of gases, including methane, which on
Earth is mostly generated by bacteria. A landing module is also being sent to
test-run the technology to be used to land the rover on the later ExoMars
mission. A rover built in Stevenage with a 6-foot drill will search for
