The Washington Post reported that the extent of the destruction in Haiti, the western hemisphere's poorest nation, is still unknown after Matthew struck with 145 mph winds. International aid teams are struggling to reach areas cut off by mud slides and washed-out bridges. Having calmed somewhat since to a still-major 115 mph Category-3 hurricane, Matthew's path toward the US has grown clearer. It's projected to be right off the coast of Florida by Thursday evening. Hurricane warnings are in effect across much of the eastern coast of Florida, with hurricane watches in the north and tropical storm watches in the south. Florida has not been hit by a hurricane since Wilma in 2005. The NOAA still projects Matthew will be a "major" hurricane with winds over 110 mph when it hits Florida.

Hurricane Matthew, the fiercest Caribbean storm in nearly a decade, slammed into the Bahamas early on Thursday and intensified as it barrelled toward the south-eastern U.S. coast where millions of residents heeded warnings to flee inland. Roadways in Florida, Georgia and North and South Carolina were jammed and gas stations and food stores ran out of supplies as the storm approached, bringing storm surges, heavy rain and sustained winds that accelerated overnight to about 125 miles (205 km) per hour. Matthew, which killed at least 39 people and displaced thousands, mostly in southern Haiti, was predicted to strengthen from a Category 3 to 4 storm enroot to Florida's Atlantic coast. Landfall was expected there on Thursday night. The hurricane warning area farther north into Georgia and more than 12 million U.S. residents were under a hurricane watches and warnings.

AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS THE FESTIVAL OF INDIA
Men in lungis might seem incongruous with the hallowed
arts centre. But that is the essence of Confluence, "The Festival of India", which
celebrates Indian arts and culture, from August 15 to November 8, across seven
Australian cities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the festival
during his visit to Australia in 2014 and, in July this year, the Australian
government announced 250,000 dollars to support it.

Heavy rain in the afternoon from 2.30PM struck Visakhapatnam, though morning was a blazing hot day. It was drizzling till 7 PM in Visakhapatnam. A thunderbolt struck on a Coconut tree in Seethammadhara area on Thursday opposite (P andT colony) drinking water supply division in the evening, in Muralinagar, and a great lightning and flames have evolved.
Dwarka Head constable examined the area. Far off areas in Visakhapatnam beyond Muralinagar, and beyond experienced a heavy rainfall for about two and half hours. It was an usual heavy rainfall.
PLASMA BALLS 07 Oct 2016
The plasma balls are zooming so fast through space it would take only 30 minutes for them to travel from Earth to the moon. This stellar "cannon fire" has continued once every 8.5 years for at least the past 400 years. According to this theory, the companion would have to be in an elliptical orbit that carries it close to the red giant's puffed-up atmosphere every 8.5 years. As the companion enters the bloated star's outer atmosphere, it gobbles up material. This material then settles into a disk around the companion, and serves as the launching pad for blobs of plasma, which travel at roughly a half-million miles per hour. Planetary nebulae aren't like regular nebula, which are the birthplace of stars. Instead, they're swirling rings of glowing gas that are expelled by dead or dying stars. Each one is unique, but no one has been able to explain how they form.
In AP every year about 2500 people die due to fall of thunderbolts. Bharat Space environment Society plans to inform half an hour earlier where the thunderbolt would strike. The satellites of AP stationed in the sky and on ground would be able to assess in advance where the thunderbolts would strike. The predictions for fall of rains, are divided as far reaching, middle time (within one or two months)and short time (within two to three hours) notices to the Zilla information centres.

VOLCANO ON 1:46 AM SATURDAY
Mount Aso, a volcano on Japan's main southern island of Kyushu, erupted
early on Saturday, spewing volcanic ash 11,000 meters (7 miles) into the sky. Eruption,
which began at 1:46 a.m. local time (1646 GMT Friday) on one of the peaks of
the 1,592-metre (5,222 feet) mountain in Kumamoto Prefecture. It was the first
"explosive eruption" at the peak since January 1980. The alert level
for the volcano to level 3 on a scale of 5, people warned
of falling rocks. It also warned of falling ash in 10 prefectures. Volcanic ash
had accumulated on cars, houses and roads in the city of Aso and ash was
falling as far as 320 km (200 miles) away, Japanese media said. Tomatoes and
asparagus were being grown 6-8 km (4-5 miles) away from the crater had been
broken by ash and small rocks. Window was cracked by a falling rock at an Aso
youth centre about 5 km (3 miles) away from the crater but there were no
reports of injuries. "We are concerned that more damage on crops will be
reported". Kyushu Electric Power Co said the eruption had no impact on its
Sendai nuclear plant, which is about 160 km (100 miles) south of Mount Aso and
is one of the two reactors that are online in Japan. Up to 29,000 households
lost power shortly after the eruption but the problem was fixed in less than
two hours, a spokesman at Kyushu Electric said. Mount Aso is one of the most
active peaks in Japan but is also a popular hiking spot.

ANCIENT HUMAN FOOTPRINTS
October 13, 2016 08:58 IST: The Washington Post
The site in northern Tanzania is the largest assemblage of ancient human footprints in Africa and one of the biggest on the planet, Liutkus-Pierce and her colleagues reported in the journal Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology. The 400-odd footprints, which cover an area the size of a tennis court, were imprinted in deposits from an ancient flood, dried, then covered up with a second layer of mud and preserved for as many as 19,000 years. Using the argon-argon dating technique, by which scientists measure the decay of an isotope called Argon-40 into Argon-39 in order to find the age of crystals, they came up with a rough approximation of the footprints' age: 19,000 years at the oldest, 10,000 or 12,000 years at the youngest.
T-Rays
European and Russian scientists have proposed a new method using much more rapid terahertz radiation, aka "T-rays," the same things used in airport body scanners. According to their research, published in the journal Nature, swapping out magnetic fields for T-rays could crank up the rate of the cell-resetting process by a factor of 1000, which could be used to create ultrafast memory. The radiation is actually a series of short electromagnetic pulses pinging the cells at terahertz frequencies (which have wavelengths of about 0.1 millimeter, lying between microwaves and infrared light, according to the scientists' press release). Most of the recent T-ray experiments have dealt with quick, precise inspections of organic and mechanical material.
