See Fig 12a, b, c. The reason you can see the craters on the side facing us is because the earth is reflecting light on it!  In the attempt to photograph the entire extent of the Corona, I did a 7 shot bracket and stacked the images in Photomatix 5.  However I found putting the 2 longest exposures in the stack added too much scatter from the smoke in the air so only used 5 of the images in the stack.  Upon looking at the longest exposure I noticed the earthshine!  That's Regulus to the bottom left of the sun.  In the previous images I cloned it out thinking it was a hot pixel. This was a 1/2 second exposure at 400 ISO at f5.6 with the Canon 7DMKII plus 500mm f4 IS V1  Enjoy!
ECLIPSE EFFECT: HIGH TIDE UNUSAUAL: WASHIGTON: Solar eclipse’s high tides break net, dump Atlantic salmon in Pacific off Washington: Fishers were incensed at the Atlantic salmon intruding in home waters of native Washington Pacific salmon. The spill was caused by tides pushed unusually high by Monday’s approaching total solar eclipse. Thousands of Atlantic salmon were accidentally released from a fish farm into waters between Anacortes and the San Juan Islands when tides were pushed unusually high by the Eclipse. (Seattle Times).
EARTH QUAKE DUE TO SOLAR ECLIPSE!!!
Aug 22, 2017, 05:07 AM IST: ROME:  THERMAL WATERS: The tremor hit the northwest of the island at 8:57 pm (1957 GMT), with a depth of some 10 km. An eathquake rattled the Italian resort island of Ischia, famous for thermal waters,  at the peak of tourist season Monday 21 August 2017 night, killing at least one person and trapping a half dozen others, including children, under collapsed homes. Police said all but one of the people known to be trapped were responding to rescuers and were expected to be extracted alive. One person, however, wasn't responding, raising worries the death toll could increase. There was great discrepancy in the magnitude reported: Italy's national vulcanology agency put the initial magnitude at 3.6, though it revised it to a 4.0 sustained magnitude with a shallow depth of 5 kilometers (3 miles) in the waters just off the island. The US Geological Survey and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center gave it a 4.3 magnitude, with a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles). One woman was killed by falling masonry. At least three people were extracted from the rubble. Ischia is a favorite island, famed in particular for its thermal waters.

The temperature dropped, birds quieted down, crickets chirped and the stars came out in the middle of the day as the line of darkness raced 2,600 miles (4,200 km) across the continent in about 90 minutes. In Boise, Idaho, where the sun was more than 99 percent blocked.
Along the path of totality - the line of deep shadow created when the sun is completely obscured except for the ring of light known as the corona. The Nashville Zoo just to watch the animals' reaction and noticed how they got noisier at it got darker. Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois saw the longest stretch of darkness: 2 minutes and 44 seconds.
United Nations, Aug 25, 2017: Almost 41 million people have been affected by flooding and landslides in India, Bangladesh and Nepal and there is possibility the situation could deteriorate further as rains continue in some flood-affected areas, a UN agency said. United Nations humanitarian agencies are working with the Government and partners in Nepal to bring in clean water, food, shelter and medical aid for some of the 41 million people affected by flooding and landslides in Bangladesh, India and Nepal. Nearly a thousand people have been killed, and tens of thousands of homes, schools and hospitals have been destroyed in these countries.
New Delhi, India: August 24, 2017, Thursday,13:09: Death toll from South Asia flooding tops 1,000. India, Bangladesh and Nepal, where authorities say a total of 1,009 bodies have been recovered since August 10 when intense rainfall started falling.
At the White House, despite all the warnings from experts about the risk of eye damage, President Donald Trump took off his eclipse glasses and looked directly at the sun. But did Donald Trump listen? Nope. By publicly flouting the chief rule about eclipses, don't look directly at the sun, Mr Trump showed us, once again, what a great man he is. As for the after-effects of looking at the eclipse sun directly, only time will tell if it had any negative impact on the POTUS' eyesight.

23 August 2017:A powerful storm has swept across southern China, leaving 12 dead and hundreds of people injured. Typhoon Hato made landfall at noon on Wednesday near Zhuhai city in Guangdong province, bringing with it strong winds and lashing rain
23 August 2017: A Canadian town says it will not remove swastikas from a public park because it has historical significance. In the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit, swastika means "well-being". The symbol has been used by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains for millennia and is commonly assumed to be an Indian sign. Early Western travellers to Asia were inspired by its positive and ancient associations and started using it back home. By the beginning of the 20th Century there was a huge fad for the swastika as a benign good luck symbol. Single swastikas began to appear in the Neolithic Vinca culture across south-eastern Europe around 7,000 years ago. But it's in the Bronze Age that they became more widespread across the whole of Europe. In the Museum's collection there are clay pots with single swastikas encircling their upper half which date back to around 4,000 years ago. When the Nazis occupied Kiev in World War Two they were so convinced that these pots were evidence of their own Aryan ancestors that they took them back to Germany. (They were returned after the war.)

The storm turned roads into rivers and caused chest-deep flooding on some streets in Houston as rivers and channels overflowed their banks. More than 26 inches of rain had fallen in parts of Houston in the past 48 hours. US President Donald Trump, facing the first big natural disaster of his term, said on Sunday he would visit the area as soon as he could do so without causing more disruption. August 25, 2017 12:27:IST: Urris, Ireland: Torrential rains in northwest Ireland, described by the country's weather office as a once-in-a-century event, triggered a landslide that sent a car flying through the wall of a house earlier this week.
