On Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that India looks to carry a human into space on an Indian spacecraft from Indian soil by 2022. The cheese was discovered in the tomb of Ptahmes who was the mayor of Memphis in Egypt during the 13th century BC. After dissolving the sample, the researchers purified its protein constituents and analyzed them with liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. The peptides detected by these techniques show the sample was a dairy product made from milk. The characteristics of the canvas fabric, which was suitable for containing a solid rather than a liquid substance, supported the conclusion that the dairy product was a solid cheese.

So physicists from all of the world began to take a closer look at the data as something didn’t seem right. Eight monovalent metals Sodium, Potassium, Lithium, Rubidium, Cesium, Gold, Silver, and Copper, perhaps their combinations may prove to be practical and their solid state chemistry with right perturbations should show interesting behavior. Lockyer confirmed Pogson’s doubt that the errant yellow line might not be due to sodium, and coined the name ‘helium’. Much later, in 1895, William Ramsay isolated an element from a radioactive material, which had the same spectral signature, and so could be identified as helium.

POWER et al:  Stable, radiogenic, and clumped isotope data in concert with electron microscopy demonstrate that magnesite forms by direct precipitation from aqueous solution in the shallow subsurface at low temperature (~3-10 °C). Magnesite particle size distributions indicate that its formation is nucleation limited with long induction times; while changing magnesite crystal morphology with depth suggests variable crystal growth mechanisms and formation rates (nucleation + crystal growth). We determine those rates to be in the range of 10^-17 to 10^-16 mol/cm^2/s based on field data. Furthermore, the abundance of magnesite with respect to hydromagnesite increases over time as its formation is reaction-controlled rather than transport-controlled for hydromagnesite. In microcosm experiments aimed at accelerating magnesite formation, carboxylated polystyrene microspheres caused desolvation of Mg2+ ions, minimizing the rate limitation and inducing magnesite precipitation at room temperature over 72 days.   Incorporating carboxylated surfaces into mineral carbonation processes or the use of such ligands for deep geologic CO2 storage may offer novel and economically viable strategies for permanent carbon storage. // 16:14, IST:  Ganga drying up in summers due to groundwater depletion: The Ganga river has witnessed an unprecedented fall in its level due to the rapid depletion in the groundwater. Gravity and Gravitation: The main difference between gravity and gravitation is that gravitation describes the attractive force between any two masses while gravity specifically describes the resultant force with which an object is attracted towards the Earth. Gravitation refers to the attractive force between two masses in general. Gravity refers to the resultant force between a mass and Earth. The resultant force also accounts for other forces present in the system, for instance, the force on the mass due to the Earth’s rotation.
13 Aug. 2018: MIT News Office:  Feynmann world-class physicist, bongo player, and writer of letters, once spent an evening trying to break spaghetti into two pieces by bending it at both ends. After hours spent in the kitchen and a great deal of pasta having been wasted, he and his friend Danny Hillis admitted defeat. Even worse, they had no solution for why the spaghetti always broke into at least three pieces. The answer, according to a new MIT study, is yes -- with a twist. In a paper published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers report that they have found a way to break spaghetti in two, by both bending and twisting the dry noodles. The team found that if a stick is twisted past a certain critical degree, then slowly bent in half, it will, against all odds, break in two.if a 10-inch-long spaghetti stick is first twisted by about 270 degrees and then bent, it will snap in two, mainly due to two effects. The snap-back, in which the stick will spring back in the opposite direction from which it was bent, is weakened in the presence of twist. And, the twist-back, where the stick will essentially unwind to its original straightened configuration, releases energy from the rod, preventing additional fractures. The twist wave travels faster than the bending wave, dissipating energy so that additional critical stress accumulations, which might cause subsequent fractures, do not occur.

August 27, 2018: AsianScientist:  Scientists in South Korea, led by Professor In Su-Il of DGIST placed graphene on reduced titanium dioxide in a stable and efficient way to develop a photocatalyst that can convert carbon dioxide into methane (CH4) or ethane (C2H6). The researchers demonstrated that the volume of hydrocarbon fuel generated by their system is 259 µmol/g and 77 µmol/g of methane and ethane, respectively. The conversion rate of their photocatalyst was shown to be 5.2 percent for methane and 2.7 percent for ethane, higher than that of conventional reduced titanium dioxide photocatalysts. The researchers noted that their catalyst material could solve global warming problems and energy resource depletion issues by selectively producing higher levels of hydrocarbon materials using sunlight.

Fig.13 Detection of decay of Boson into a pair of
Bottom Quarks.
To extract the signal, the ATLAS and CMS collaborations each combined data from the first and second runs of the Large Hadron Collider, (LHC), which involved collisions at energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. They then applied complex analysis methods to the data. The upshot was the detection of the decay of the Higgs boson to a pair of bottom quarks with a significance that exceeds 5 standard deviations. Furthermore, the collaborations measured a rate for the decay that is consistent with the Standard Model prediction, within the current precision of the measurement. This made the new experiment all the more important as physicists would then know with the results whether the Standard Model, which provides quarks with mass, should be used or whether physicists needed to look at a completely new kind of physics.

Ozone layer destruction may have contributed to the largest mass extinction in the history of Earth, known as the End-Permian Extinction, a study has found. The event, known as the Great Dying, occurred around 250 million years ago when a massive volcanic eruption in Siberia sent nearly 90 percent of all life right into extinction. The scale of this extinction was so incredible that scientists have often wondered what made the Siberian Flood Basalts so much more deadly than other similar eruptions, from the Centre for Petrographic and Geochemical Research in France.
