The Sun's outer layer boiled over recently and shot out a coronal mass ejection (CME) from its surface on January 29. The same had the effect of unleashing superfast solar winds and that brewed up a geomagnetic storm which slammed into Earth's atmosphere. It reached Earth by just February 3. This solar storm caused a radio blackout. That is exactly what it has done in Russia where the impact was the most severe.. The country is going through a long-lasting radio blackout since then. Apart from the destructive power, solar storms birth something else too - beautiful auroras in the extreme poles and that is what this one did too.

Feb. 08, 2022; 7 hrs ago: Professor Joy Sen, chairperson of the IKS centre, said his claim is based on Numidian Latin writer Apuleius’ assertion that Pythagoras had visited South India 100-300 years prior to Alexander the Great. Sen claims that books like Surya Siddhanta and the Shulba Sutras laid the foundation for the Pythagorean theorem. “Apuleius mentions Pythagoras visiting South India. So, there is a possibility that Indian mathematical knowledge informed the development of Greek mathematics and geometry,” he told ThePrint.

Feb. 10, 2022: Indian astronomers detect Earth-like habitable planets using new AI technology. India Today Web Desk  3 hours ago. A team of Indian astronomers have identified a few planets that exhibit similar characteristics as Earth using an Artificial Intelligence-based algorithm. Using Earth as an anomaly among thousands of planets that do not support life, astronomers have zeroed in on a new approach for identifying potentially habitable planets with a high probability. The AI-based method, named Multi-Stage Memetic Binary Tree Anomaly Identifier is based on the notion of a meme, which is an idea or knowledge that gets transferred from one person to another by imitation. Scientists said that memes indicate cross-cultural evolution in posterity and, therefore, can induce new learning mechanisms as generations pass.

Feb. 14, 2022: India successfully places its ‘eye in the sky’ satellite into orbit. At 5.59 a.m. Indian rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-C52 (PSLV-C52) blasted off from the first launch pad carrying three satellites including the earth observation satellite-04 (EOS-04) earlier named as RISAT-1A. The multiple satellite launch space mission lasted just over 18 minutes. The 44.4 metre tall PSLV-C52 weighing 321 ton slowly rose-up towards the skies with thick orange flame at its tail. The rocket gradually gained speed as it went up while emitting a rolling thunder sound. The satellite will play a strategic role in the nation’s defence with its capability to operate in day, night and in all weather conditions. The satellite has high data handling systems and high storage devices among other things. The satellite carries two scientific payloads to improve the understanding of ionosphere dynamics and the sun’s coronal heating process. The technology demonstrator satellite (INS-2TD) from ISRO, which is a precursor to India-Bhutan Joint Satellite (INS-2B) carries a thermal imaging camera to assess land/water surface temperature of wetlands/lakes, delineation of vegetation (crops/forests) and day/night thermal inertia. In a "marvellous accomplishment", Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has put earth observation satellite EOS-04 and two small satellites into orbit successfully.  India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C52 injected Earth Observation Satellite EOS-04, into an intended sun synchronous polar orbit of 529 km altitude at 06:17 hours IST on February 14, 2022 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, SHAR, Sriharikota.

Feb. 15, 2022: The holes in biscuits are known as docker holes. You must have noticed them in a lot of sweet and salty biscuits as well as in cream-filled biscuits like Bourbon. These holes are associated with their manufacturing and design. The primary reason for the holes is that they allow air to pass through during baking, preventing them from swelling further. Here is how these holes are created-: Manufacturers first spread flour, sugar, and salt on a sheet-like tray which is then placed under a machine before the baking process. This machine then makes holes as desired in the dough. Biscuits cannot be made properly without these holes because if the dough gets filled with air, it will swell when heated in the oven. And then, the size of the biscuits will begin to expand. The presence of holes keeps a check on the size and gives a uniform shape to biscuits.
Feb. 15, 2022: Glimpses of Northern India’s Vanishing Nomads. For centuries, Kharnak nomads have raised livestock in one of the most hauntingly beautiful — and inhospitable — places on earth. Can their traditions outlast a generational exodus? This, he told me, was how he protects his flock from predators and convinces straggling goats to return — just one of the countless skills he has learned in the last 60 years that allow him to rear his animals in such an unforgiving landscape. Meanwhile, some 15,000 feet above sea level, I was simply trying to breathe. Here on the Changthang plateau, in a remote region of the Indian Himalayas, the altitude had left me lightheaded and gasping for air.
Feb. 15,  2022: For millennia, people across the globe have reported alarmed animal behaviour in the run-up to natural disasters. Could these signals be used to warn us of impending catastrophes? The earliest recorded reference to unusual animal behaviour prior to a natural disaster dates back to 373 BC, when the Greek historian Thucydides reported rats, dogs, snakes and weasels deserting the city of Helice in the days before a catastrophic earthquake. Other reports dot history. Minutes before the Naples quake of 1805, oxen, sheep, dogs and geese supposedly started making alarm calls in unison, while horses were said to have run off in panic just prior to the San Francisco earthquake of 1906.The researchers found evidence that the farm animals began to change their behaviour up to 20 hours before an earthquake.Crucially, Grant also found evidence of what might be triggering the changes in local animal behaviour, in the shape of a series of strong perturbations in local atmospheric electric charges every two to four minutes, starting two weeks before the earthquake. A particularly large fluctuation was recorded around eight days before the Contamana earthquake – coinciding with the start of the second stage of the animals disappearing from view. Scientists are now exploring whether these electromagnetic perturbations in the atmosphere prior to earthquakes could be a warning sign of impending quakes which animals may be sensing. Earthquakes are invariably preceded by a period when severe stresses arise in deep rock – stresses known to create electronic charges called "positive holes". These highly mobile electronic charge carriers can flow quickly from the crust to the Earth's surface, where they ionise air molecules above where they appear. Such ionisation has been noted prior to quakes across the globe. As these positive holes flow, they also generate ultra-low frequency electromagnetic waves, providing an additional signal that some animals may be able to pick up.
Feb. 15, 2022: Dangerous climate change scenario emerges as US West faces worst megadrought in 1200 years. Associated Press  4 hours ago. A dramatic drying in 2021 — about as dry as 2002 and one of the driest years ever recorded for the region — pushed the 22-year drought past the previous record-holder for megadroughts in the late 1500s and shows no signs of easing in the near future, according to a study Monday in the journal Nature Climate Change. The study calculated that 42% of this megadrought can be attributed to human-caused climate change.
