Science Project on AMP Crystal Growth and preparation of Phosphor Materials.

SUMMARY

Shri Putrev Jaganadha Prayaschaa project on crystal growth and single crystal by dip techniques. The kid of 5th standard in a school at Visakhapatnam has admirably mixed the required components for single and other type of crystals in a petri dish. He has also produced a glowing zeolites compound which is stiffy like a rocky material. In darkness it gives out a green color and even a speck of it glows brilliantly. The clustered and dendrite growth of (MAP) Mono ammonium Phosphate crystals are of importance for fertilizers. The seed crystal has been selected which has grown like a perfect golden rectangle ( a great luck in the very first attempt) to hang it dipped in the saturated solution placed in a disposable plastic glass. The bound seed with a nylon thread has been kept hung, in the middle of the solution by means , that the other end of the thread tied rolled on wooden pencil stick kept horizontally on the top of the glass. The dendrite crystals and the solution would provide the migrations of the ions for the single crystal to grow in size. It is an important finding that the bottom growth of multiple crystals sustains the growth of the single seed crystal much more rapidly than keeping away the multiple crystals removed from the bottom of the plastic glass. It is only in their presence the seed crystal has almost doubled in size over night.

Details:

Face centred orthorhombic bravais crystal lattice results in stretching a cubic lattice along two lattice vectors by almost two factors forming a rectangular prism with a rectangle base. All three bases intersect at 90deg angles and the lattice vectors are mutually orthogonal. The chemical formula of AMP is (NH4)3PO4 . Some times it may turnout to be green like an emerald. But we have got very transparent white crystal and the seed tied by the nylon thread made the thread embedded in the crystal.

The Google site site specifies that"Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate or Mono ammonium phosphate formula is NH4H2PO4, it is formed by adding ammonia to the solution of phosphoric acid until the solution is markedly acidic. Mono ammonium phosphate crystallizes in the form of quadratic prisms."
