streets covered with mud after heavy rain caused flash floods on the banks of
the Lez river in Montpellier, southern France. France declared a state of
natural disaster in about 60 southern towns hit by torrential downpours, which
also left Montpellier under water. Around 60 towns in the
south of France have been officially declared natural disaster sites following
severe flooding caused by torrential downpours, Flood
waters inundated roads and highways, engulfing cars after the Lez river, which
flows by the coastal city of Montpellier, burst its banks. More than 4,000
people across the rain-soaked region spent the night in emergency centers,
schools, train stations or the airport, the local government said in a

A treasure hunter from Devon has discovered
the biggest hoard of 4th century Roman coins recorded in Britain. Laurence
Egerton, a builder, took up metal detecting seven years ago and found 22,000
Roman coins dating from AD260 to AD348. A number of the coins were struck to
mark the foundation of Constantinople in AD332, and bear the image of Emperor
Constantine the Great.

situation in flood-hit Assam remains grim with nearly four lakh people still
affected even though water levels were receding at most places in the state. According
to the daily flood report by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority
(ASDMA), 3.74 lakh people across three districts are still grappling with the
crisis. ASDMA said that 204 villages in Goalpara, Kamrup Rural and Dhemaji
districts were hit by the floods with 3.66 lakh people affected in Goalpara
alone.

The weather at Visakhapatnam has also
changed to a mild Sun on Tuesday Sept 30 and continued to morning twelve O’
Clock on the next day, Oct.1, 2014. The sun blazed in the afternoon and evening
was without air movement. The weather on the Oct 2 was quite hot with simmering
Sun, and continued till evening and the night with no wind blowing. The night
of Oct 2 was very sultry. On Oct. 3 the weather is cloudy and the festival day
of joint Navami and Dasami on this day ended practically, the Dasara
Celebrations in India. The night continues to be with no wind gentle! Oct.4

Tokyo: Typhoon swept three Americans, US military officials taking photographs out to sea in Okinawa on Oct.5, 2014. An American airman was killed and two others were missing after they were swept out to Sea by a powerful typhoon that struck Okinawa Japan, on Sunday at 11AM i.e. 0200GMT. Winds up to 112 miles per hour brought heavy rain Whipped ashore in Kihou and Honshu. Seven people died including the Americans.

at 05:33: Cyclone Nilofar approaches India's Gujarat state. Cyclone Nilofar,
categorized as "severe" by weather forecasters, is expected to hit
the western state of Gujarat during the "next 24 hours". The
Meteorological Department has predicted the storm will bring winds of up to
145km/h (90 mph). The very severe cyclonic storm, "NILOFAR" over
West-central Arabian Sea moved slightly northwards and lay centered at 1730
hours IST of Oct 27, 02.58 PM IST near lat.15.0°N and long. 62.0°E at a
distance of 1165 km South-West of Naliya
(Gujarat), and 875 km East-South-East of Salalah (Oman). It would move
north-north-westwards, during next 24 hours and then recurve to North-Eastwards
and cross north Gujarat also would hit Rajasthan by 31st October, 2014 morning.
However, as the system would come closer to Gujarat coast, it would weaken and
cross the coast as a severe cyclonic storm.

Tropical Depression
Hanna has lashed northeastern Nicaragua and eastern Honduras, unleashing heavy
rains that US forecasters warned could cause deadly flash-flooding. Though
slightly weaker and downgraded from tropical storm status, Hanna still could
drench much of Honduras and northern Nicaragua with up to 38 centimetres of
rain, according to the Miami-based National Hurricane Center. “These rainfall
amounts will produce life-threatening flash floods and mudslides,” the
NHC cautioned at 0001 GMT today. Hanna, with top winds of 55km per hour,
was forecast to move quickly inland and bring downpours to the region.

It is interesting to note that there was a very thick black cloud that
rained nearly for one and half hours in the morning at Amarkantak, the start
place of Narmada River and its 7 tributaries on a hillock, the holy place of
India, stay of Dr. Lalitha Kumari MD (USA) in the morning of Oct. 6. As soon
the rain cleared there was Sun shine and a pleasant weather she reported.
Oct.7 was
a hot day very sunny and no wind. But in the evening from 6h45mPM to 7h30mPM it
showered slightly at Visakhapatnam and the weather turned out to be pleasant
devoid of the heat.

ODISHA STATE
Cyclone alert in 16 districts of Odisha state on Tuesday Oct. 07, as the
low pressure in North Andaman Sea, at 130km east-southeast of Long Island developed
shape of a depression. Odisha is bracing for a
possible cyclonic storm once again. More than half the state has been put on high
alert for a possible cyclonic storm, as per authorities said Tuesday. The
cyclone, estimated speed of 25-30knots, may hit the Andhra-Odisha coast by
October 12. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that low
pressure formed over Tenasserim Coast and adjoining Andaman Sea has
concentrated into a depression which is located 1,380 km south-east of
Gopalpur.
VISAKHAPATNAM
Oct.8 was a hot day very sunny and in the evening around
4PM the clouds gathered and it became pleasantly mild weather. The Moon was
observed around at its time of rise at 5h54mPM at Visakhapatnam with lunar eclipse till 6:05 pm IST and
pictures captured and presented in an accompanying article on Full Moon Day of
Oct. 8, 2014. On the eve of Oct.8 the clouds gathered and the full Red Hue of
the setting Sun reflected in the Clouds and several pictures taken to observe
the evening Red glow of the setting Sun by the author. Surprisingly the Sea
water happens to be pristine blue a bewildering sight on the Eclipse eve. Pictures
taken on the eve from 5h30mPM to almost 6h40m PM and they would reveal the
scenario of Visakhapatnam Beach shore with splendid spectral features. Most
concentrated study required to gather information about Eclipse and its
sustained affects.
Oct.9 happens to be a day of subdued light due to the
onset of a Storm of Arabian Sea to hit the coast on 12th.

with comet Siding Spring
A comet
the size of a small mountain whizzed past Mars on Sunday 12 Oct 2014, dazzling
space enthusiasts with the once-in-a-million-years encounter. ISRO on Thursday 16
Oct 2014 had repositioned its Mars Orbiter Mangalyaan to avoid collision. The
comet, known as Siding Spring (C/2013 A1), made its closest encounter with Mars
on Sunday at 2.27pm (1827 GMT), racing past the Red Planet at a breakneck
126,000 miles (203,000 km) per hour. At its closest, Siding Spring was 87,000
miles (139,500 km) from Mars, about a third the distance between Earth and our
moon. Before the comet passed, it could be seen in space racing toward the
brightly illuminated Red Planet, trailed by a cloud of debris. Scientists
said the comet's passing offered a unique chance to study its impact on Mars's
atmosphere.

Ecuador: A magnitude-5.6 earthquake rattled Ecuador’s border with Colombia on
Monday, Oct 20, 2014 shaking low-lying buildings and frightening residents in
the sparsely-populated area. There were no immediate reports of injuries or
damage. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake struck at 3:33 p.m. EDT, had
a depth of about 10 kilometers (6 miles) and was centered about 113 kilometers
(70 miles) northeast of Quito. It initially measured the quake at 6-magnitude,
but downgraded it to 5.6 several hours later.

GLOWING SUN
AR2192 has an unstable
'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field that harbors energy for powerful explosions,
and the active region is turning toward Earth. NOAA forecasters estimate a 95%
chance of M-class flares and a 55% chance of X-flares during the next 24 hours.
Since the week began, giant sunspot AR2192 has produced 27 C-class solar
flares, 8 M-class flares, and 2 X-flares.

October 24th was unique and unforgettable. As our group approached one of my
favorite photo-spots, we noticed a beautiful strand of auroras stretching from
one horizon to another. As the display grew, the strands slowly developed into
a pulsating wave of flashing green lights. I can honestly say that I have never
seen anything like this in all of the years that I have been photographing the

erupted again on Oct. 24th (21:40 UT), producing a powerful X3-class solar
flare. A
pulse of extreme UV radiation from the flare ionized the upper layers of
Earth's atmosphere, causing a brief but strong blackout of HF radio
communications over the dayside of Earth. Coronagraph data from the
Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) suggest that the explosion did not hurl a significant CME
toward our planet (Interestingly, none of the X-flares from this active region has
so far produced a major CME).

For the last three days

weather in the South India. New cyclone has hit parts of Gujarat on Sunday

lashed with rains with highest rainfall in Macharla 29cms followed by Udayagiri
21cm, Rentachintalla 15cm, Bapatla 11cm, Yerragondapalem and Karamchedu each
10cm. Four tanks breached in Anantapur district and Prakasam district Mani vagu
and Dudduluru vagu breached, the rain helped the Bengal gram, Cotton and
Tobacco cultivation.

October 24, 2014:17:28 IST Northeast monsoon brings good rainfall to south India.
Several places in
Tamil Nadu, Kerala including Karnataka have received some good rain on
Thursday. Oct 23 in a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 a.m. Chennai received a whopping 78.1 mm rain,
taking the total rainfall amount in the city to 329.6 mm, which is more than
the October average of 286.4 mm. “Other places in Tamil Nadu too have received
rain — Dharmapuri (19 mm), Coonoor (18.6 mm), Salem (16 mm), Kodaikanal (11 mm)
and Pamban (8.2 mm),” the agency said. Rainfall in Kerala has been light to
moderate with Kottayam receiving showers measuring 29.8 mm followed by
Kozhikode (27.9 mm), Thiruvananthapuram (13.4 mm), Kochi (9.4 mm) and Alappuzha
(5.9 mm).
“Karnataka, too,
received good rain with Mangalore recording 68.6 mm rainfall on Thursday.
Agumbe saw 19.8 mm rain, Karwar 16.4 mm, and Bangalore 8 mm,” the agency added.
An official of the Meteorological Department said an upper air cyclonic
circulation over Sri Lanka and the adjoining Gulf of Mannar and other areas persisted.
Many parts of the State, both in the north and the south, would receive heavy
rain on Saturday too.
The amounts of
rainfall (1cm or more) recorded at 1730 hours IST of Oct 25 are: Kanniyakumari 6;
Arogyavaram & Vijayawada 3 each; Atiramapattinam & Valprai 2, each;
Tuni, Pamban, Kakinada, Nellore, Kodaikanal, Nedumbassery & Vengurla 1each. 18 gates of
Sunkesula barrage, above 1metre height, opened to release Tungabhadra 80,600
cusecs water to Srisailam reservoir on Oct 27. Heavy rains lashed Nellore
district on Sunday night Oct. 26 with rainfall of 11.78cm in 24 hours. Vijawada
Monday morning hours left the city with 3mm rain.
Visakhapatnam had the first winter chilly weather since Oct. 25 and people
started warring protecting clothes from the cold. On all the days from Oct. 25
to Oct. 28 Visakhapatnam was a cloudy city.

Around
100 people were buried alive in a tea-growing region of Sri Lanka Wednesday
Oct. 29 as mudslides triggered by monsoon rains washed away their homes on a
plantation, disaster officials said. The mudslide hit at a time when most
people were at work and children were already in school, leaving the elderly
and the very young at home. The landslide began at about 7.45 am (0215 GMT) and
lasted about 10 minutes, Perera said, adding "some houses have been buried
in 30 feet of mud".
This week Hindu devotees
celebrate the holy festival of Chhath Puja, which gives thanks to the sun god,
Surya, for providing the sun and helping to sustain the gift of life and
prosperity. The festival is celebrated on the sixth day of the Hindu calendar
following the Deepavali the festival of lights. Each year
Hindu devotees gather and dip into the Bagmati River in Kathmandu, Nepal, the
Ganges River in India, the Arabian Sea and others. Throughout the four-day
festival, beautifully and colorfully adorned devotees fast, pray and gather at

A low-intensity earth-quake 2.3R
magnitude, jolted Addanki and Ballikurava in Prakasam and Guntur districts,
felt on Thursday, Oct.30, at 7h26mPM. The epicenter was at 16km North-West of
Addanki, in Prakasam District. People ran out of houses as window panes,
glasses, plates and other domestic appliances have shaken for two seconds.
Gujarat cyclone Nilofar

at 05:33: Cyclone Nilofar approaches India's Gujarat state. Cyclone Nilofar, categorised as
"severe" by weather forecasters, is expected to hit the western state
of Gujarat during the "next 24 hours". The Meteorological Department has
predicted the storm will bring winds of up to 145km/h (90 mph). The very severe
cyclonic storm, "NILOFAR" over West-central Arabian sea moved
slightly northwards and lay centered at 1730 hours IST of Oct 27, 02.58 PM IST near
lat.15.0°N and long. 62.0°E at a distance of 1165 km South-West of Naliya
(Gujarat), and 875 km East-South-East of Salalah (Oman). It would move
north-north-westwards, during next 24 hours and then recurve to North-Eastwards
and cross north Gujarat also would hit Rajasthan by 31st October, 2014 morning. However, as the system would come closer to
Gujarat coast, it would weaken and cross the coast as a severe cyclonic
storm.

Northern cold winds brought down the mercury in AP in Hyderabad to 16 deg C, Adilabad 13.7 deg C and Rayalseema hovered around 19degC to 23deg C.
