INTRODUCTION

28  Galaxies hold water in the Universe.

Space.com: Nola Redd 15 hours ago: 1 April 2016.
The newly found distant world, known as KELT-4Ab, orbits one star. That star in turn is orbited by a nearby pair of stars. The twin stars are close enough to the planet to appear about as bright as the full moon in the sky, new research has revealed. KELT-4Ab, which is about as massive as Jupiter, orbits the single star KELT-A once every three days. Nearby, the stars KELT-B and KELT-C orbit one another once every 30 years, and together they travel around KELT-A and its planet every 4,000 years or so. One reason the twin stars in the KELT-4 system were so easily identified as two individual stars instead of one was because of the system's close proximity to Earth.

 MARS SURFACE REPLICA IN GUJARAT
Fig.1 Surface of Mars 1 April 2016 from Matanumadh area in Gujarat

In an article published in Journal of Geophysical Rsearch:Planets, Souvika Mitra of IIT, Kharagpur ascertained that the Martian Surface revealed at Matanumadh  (86 km north-west of Bhuj) Formation represents analog locality. The positive identification of Jarosite, in addition to the previously reported Minearals naturoalunite and minamiite forms a major evidence of the site resemblance with Martian Surface. MIGHTY

PAKISTAN RAINS ISLAMABAD
RAINS KILL IN NORTH PAKISTAN AT LEAST 63 PEOPLE
At least 57 people were killed and 27 others injured as flash floods triggered by torrential rains swept away houses across northwest Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), officials said on Monday. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was worst-hit in the downpour that began last night and caused flash floods in several districts, a Pakistani national disaster management official said. Shangla district was most affected where 14 people were killed while 12 people died in Kohistan and eight in Swat, the official said. At least eight people, including five children, were killed in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan regions where land slides buried houses. Several houses were badly damaged and some bridges were swept away by flash floods in different parts of the province.  Death toll from northern Pakistan rains rises to 71 AFP news April 5, 2016.

SUMM ER HEAT ANDHRA

Bowl-like structure does not allow the heat to escape, but traps it within the boundaries. Southern region which falls close to the equator is the victim of heat wave being radiated from Rajasthan Thar desert. 30 deaths recorded due to Sunstroke, while 11 are officially confirmed while 19 awaiting confirmation.  The government however, putting the death toll at 12, claims not all deaths were due to the heat wave. Five districts Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, East Godavari and West Godavari feeling the pinch of blazing Sun. Workers not ready even with a lure of Rs.100/- and farm land workers not available after 11 AM. School going children and who are writing exams are facing the maximum heat threat.

NEW MYSTERIOUS STATE OF MATTER
A quantum state of matter known as quantum spin liquid predicted 40 years ago, the University of Cambridge in UK, measured the first signature of these fractional particles, known as Majorana Fermions. It has a structure similar to 2D graphene. Electrons break up, in a material containing a spin liquid, at alost cooled to absolute zero, form an entangled soup caused by quantum fluctuations. The experimental results matched with the Kitaev model main theory of quantum spin liquid.

AFTER-GLOW ORIGINATED FROM BLACK HOLE
News: April 6, 2018 Mr Schholtz said that he found a total of 10 new bursts. Some FRBs last just a few thousands of a second, since they were first reported a decade ago. Laural Spitler post-doc of Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy, in Germany published in Nature, asserting that the Fast Radio Bursts, repeat with their brightness and spectra differ from those of other FRB's. Mr Schholtz said that he found a total of 10 new bursts. Some FRBs last just a few thousands of a second, since they were first reported a decade ago. Nature Year published: (2016) doi: 10.1038/ nature 17168, Received 03 December 2015 Accepted 21 January 2016 Published on line 02 March 2016. NEW FIND: The FRB 150418 obtained Feb last year was only a second one to be identified in real time. JVLAN radio network showed the initial observations have completely faded out. But a persistent radio source whose strength varied randomly by a factor of three, matching often the brightness of the claimed afterglow. It goes up and down but never goes away. So it could be associated with a fast radio burst. Emission originates from an active galactic nucleus, powered by a supermassive black hole. Both the short and long gamma bursts, FRBs and the constant source of radio waves point to complex physical processes within these jets!

 WORLD’S SMALLEST DIODE
The size of a molecule, world’s smallest diode was developed, such an element is the nano-scale diode or molecular rectifier, which allows flow  of current in only a single direction.

April 4, 2016
The world's smallest diode, the size of a single molecule, has been created. Scientists have constructed a theoretical model of the DNA molecule inside the electric circuit to better understand the results of the experiment. Prof. Bingqian Xu's group at the College of Engineering at the University of Georgia took a single DNA molecule constructed from 11 base pairs and connected it to an electronic circuit only a few nanometers in size. When they measured the current through the molecule, it did not show any special behavior. However, when layers of a molecule called "coralyne," were inserted (or intercalated) between layers of DNA, the behavior of the circuit changed drastically. The current jumped to 15 times larger negative vs. positive voltages--a necessary feature for a nano diode. The researchers published their results in the latest issue of Nature Nanotechnology. see below.
Elementary physics in a single molecule July 25, 2013 Karlsruhe Institute of Technology,
Fig.2   The idea of measurement in a single molecule
The smallest unit of a magnet is the magnetic moment of a single atom or ion. If two of these magnetic moments are coupled, two options result: Either the magnetic moments add up to a stronger moment or they compensate each other and magnetism disappears. From the quantum physics point of view, this is referred to as a triplet or singlet. A team of researchers around Professor Mario Ruben from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Professor Heiko B. Weber from the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg now wanted to find out whether the magnetism of a pair of magnetic moments can be measured electrically in a single molecule.

LAKE TUKANA DISAPPEARING: KENYA
An 180-mile shining ribbon that cuts neatly across north-western Kenya, Lake Turkana is a vital source of life for more than 1.2 million people. It occupies an arid region bordering Uganda, South Sudan and Ethiopia that is famously known as the “cradle of mankind,” because the oldest known fossils of early humans were unearthed there. But the lake, once so vast that some still know it as the Jade Sea, is fast disappearing. A combination of global warming and water resources projects have caused the inland sea to shrink. And according to paleoanthropologist and conservationist Richard Leakey, it's already too late to save it."
