SPECTRA ON THE HORIZON:  India may experience more deadly heatwaves in the years to come and during 1960to 2000 mean temperaturesin India from 27C to 27.5C, killing more than 100 people due to heatwaves. This is jump of 146% from 13% to 32%. In 1975 and 1976 there were only 43 and 34 heat related fatalities when the mean temperature was 27.4C. When higher than 28C, in 1998 at least 1600 people died. The most heatwave days occurred in 1998(16) when 1655 people died, and 2003(13) when 1500 died.
On June 8, 2017, Thursday Moon was at 22:30 India time it was at 252,526 miles or 406,401 km Earth from. It wasn’t however a full moon and the mini-moon would return about one month and 18 days later with each passing year. In 2018 smallest moon would show up on July 27, and in 2019 it will fall on September 14, and in 2020 on October 31. It frequently occurs in 14 lunar months, 14 returns to full moon a period of about one year and 48 days. That moment actually occurred on Thursday (June 8) at 6:30 p.m. EDT (2230 GMT), when the moon was 252,526 miles (406,401 km) from Earth. The moment of full moon comes 14 hours and 40 minutes later, at 9:10 a.m. EDT (1310 GMT) on Friday morning. For what it's worth, the moon will have moved 81 miles (131 km) closer to Earth, compared with the actual moment of apogee the previous evening. The moon will be at least 98-percent illuminated on four consecutive evenings: June 7, 8, 9 and 10.  So from Wednesday through Saturday of this week, a casual observer who is not looking carefully at the moon would probably say that it looked full, since the defect of illumination is so slight. In contrast, when the full moon is near perigee, the change is more evident. Within 24 hours of full phase, even a casual observer would note the moon appearing slightly "out of roundness."
09 June 2017: From 5 PM to almost 7 PM it rained heavily with huge thunders and may be several lightning falls, nearby places, and I felt almost the clouds and the banging of thunders was on top of our  house in the Muralinagar area. This may be the onset of the expected monsoon rains of this year.

Oceanic air flowing toward India below 6,000 metres (19,700 feet) is deflected in accordance with the Coriolis Effect. The converging moist oncoming stream becomes unstable over the hot land and is subject to rapid convection. Towering cumulonimbus clouds rise thousands of metres, producing violent thunderstorms and releasing latent heat in the surrounding air. As a result, the upper tropospheric warm belt migrates north-westward from the ocean to the land. The main body of air above 9,000 metres (29,500 feet) maintains a strong easterly flow. There would be no heat wave for the next five days despite slight rise in temperature. Rains would continue at isolated places. On Saturday, the national capital recorded 39.5 degrees maximum temperature and minimum 27.4 degrees Celsius -- both as per the season's average so far.
Saturday, June 10, 2017: 23:35: Mercury to rise in north India, no heat waves though: Barmer and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan were the hottest places across the country on Saturday, said the weather office, which forecast slight rise in temperature in entire north India, including Delhi, over the next three-four days.

Locations of concern include Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Sawtell, Woolgoolga and Dorrigo, while there are also warnings for the Brunswick, Wilsons and Richmond rivers. Up to 200 mm more rain could fall in parts of the Northern Rivers district over the following two days and some catchments may receive higher.

13 June 2017: 9 hours ago: Greece earthquake hits Lesbos: Tremors felt in Istanbul and Athens. A strong earthquake has struck off the Aegean coast of western Turkey and the Greek island of Lesbos, with tremors felt in Istanbul and Athens. The epicentre of the 6.3R quake was 5 km (3 miles) south of Plomari, a town on the coast of Lesbos. Several buildings were damaged but the village of Vrisa was worst hit with 10 people taken to hospital. Turkey and Greece sit on significant fault lines and earthquakes are common. June 13 , 2017 , 17:13 IST: Over the last week, mysterious cracks have been appearing in the earth in the area of Manipur hills sending local residents to refugee camps and drawing tourists curious to see the fissures breaking the roads. First appearing on June 4, residents described a sudden 'earth movement' as the mysterious 'earth crack' appeared in the Kankpokpi district of Manipur leading to a panic of potential landslides.
Fig.5 The cracks were extensive
in Songtun Manipur
The crack originated below the village of J Songtun and spread towards Kalikhola village. Within 24 hours of the first crack, 11 houses had collapsed and 19 others were on the edge. The cracks ran through the surrounding paddy fields and roads destroying them as well. The crack widened further and damaged structures within a 5 km radius, including water pipelines and electric posts. In wake of the expanding cracks, around 250 people have been shifted to relief camps and Manipur Tribal Development Minister N Kayisii has provided Rs 3 lakh in financial assistance to those displaced by the fissure. The fissure was inspected by the principal secretary, relief and disaster management along with other Kangpokpi officials and further Rs 20 lakh was sanctioned as relief. However, the causes of the cracks remain a mystery. Geological Survey of India sent a team to study the crack and while there were rumors that the cracks were a result of a dormant volcano in the Koubru range showing signs of life, the rumors were dismissed. An associate professor at a science college in the state, Th Ranjit opined that the cracks were a result of the recent bout of heavy rains in deforested hills which had rich soil cover. Similar earth cracks have appeared internationally as well, in South Africa and in US, in the middle of the Arizona desert. While sometimes the cracks were attributed to the shifting of the earth's tectonic plates, others were called sinkholes. Such cracks in Arizona were believed to be caused by the withdrawal of ground water which left empty space where the earth caved in.

Jun 15, 2017, 09.05 AM: Rain clouds thinning out in west and central India: Low-flying  clouds that usually bring rain in the monsoon have thinned out and reduced over the years in India, according to a study of 50 years of observations. More or less rain can affect crop yields playing havoc with food security and the economy. More hot days also affects large numbers of people. Low clouds are usually those found up to 6,500 feet. They are very difficult to study and predict but have a great impact on trapping heat as also rain bearing. Changing climate has induced further unpredictability in their behavior.
