Oct. 2, 2020:However, the ban has been brought into effect from today as businesses in England will not be able to provide customers with plastic straws, plastic drinks stirrers, and cotton buds as well. According to a report in The Independent, from October 1, it will be illegal for businesses to supply plastic straws, stirrers, and plastic-stemmed cotton buds to customers, with exemptions in place to protect disabled people and those with medical conditions who require plastic straws.
Oct. 02, 2020: This Andhra Village Volunteer Crossed Swollen Stream to Deliver Old-age Pension to Beneficiaries.  She crossed a swollen 500m water stream to ensure the pensions are delivered on October 1. When asked about what motivated her to go the extra mile, she said, "The happiness we spot in the faces of beneficiaries on the 1st of every month is unfathomable. Most of the people in my list of 25 beneficiaries depend on the pension for their survival. Failing to deliver it on time could have impacted their lives.

Oct. 03, 2020: Moderate earthquake of 3.9 magnitude hits Assam's Kampur district on Saturday (October 3) night, causing panic among people the quake occurred at 21.06 p.m. on Saturday and was at a depth of 10 km with epicentre in 51 km west of Guwahati city. The tremor, which lasted for several seconds, forced panic-stricken people to run out of their homes.
Oct. 04, 2020:  In uncle’s backyard, student finds stone linking Kerala to Roman empire knew the 'button' was no ordinary find. There emerged a glorious she-Sphinx, the Greek mythical creature known for its magical powers. The small village by the backwaters of the Periyar river, could be Muziris — the legendary port city that thrived sometime between the 1st century BC and 4th century AD.
Oct. 04, 2020: Student's Finds Historic Seal Which Could Prove Kerala's Pattanam Was Legendary Roman City 'Muziris'. The discovery reasserts the theory the present-day Pattanam could be Muziris — the legendary port city that thrived between the 1st century BC and 4th century AD. According to researchers, the port known as the ‘Emporia of the East’ flourished after the Romans conquered Egypt, and became a central region for trade between the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean regions. Pepper, precious stones, silk, beads, ivory and pottery were traded to West Asia and Rome.
Oct. 05, 2020: Atal Tunnel has full 4G connectivity, thanks to BSNL. This means, all the BSNL users with 4G services will get an internet speed of 20-to-25 mbps while crossing the Atal Tunnel. Oct. 06, 2020: Gartang Gali, an ancient route for Indo-Tibet trade before 1962, will now emerge as a new tourist destination. The government has announced to repair this significant route by spending Rs 35 lakh on it. The Public Works Department Bhatwadi of the Uttarakhand government is assigned the job.  This road is in the Nelong Valley, Uttarkashi. This street is at an altitude of 11 thousand feet above sea level. In the 17th century, the Pathans of Peshawar prepared this path by cutting the Himalayas' steep hills. This 500-meter long timber-lined stairway (Gartang Gali) has been a witness to Indo-Tibet trade. Before 1962, Indo-Tibet traders travelled through this route by loading goods on yaks, horse-mules, and sheep-goats. The army also used this route for ten years after the Indo-China war.
Oct. 06, 2020: The lost script of Rapa Nui. Centuries ago, the Rapa Nui people had their own script, known as rongo-rongo, written alternatively from right to left and from left to right. By the 17th century, though, according to Encyclopedia Britannica, the symbols’ “proper reading was forgotten,” and they were copied for ritual purposes by people who didn’t understand their meaning. According to the encyclopedia, all attempts at deciphering the script have failed.
Oct. 06, 2020: Two Earthquakes Hit Ladakh, No Damage Reported. Leh: A moderate-intensity earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale hit Leh of the Union Territory of Ladakh on Tuesday morning. There was no report of any casualty or damage to property due to the quake that struck at 5.13 am and lasted for a few seconds, the officials said. Another tremor of 4.4 magnitude hit the Union territory at 11.43 am, reported the NCS. Both the quakes were at a depth of 10 km.
Oct. 06, 2020: Scientist create TRANSPARENT wood as clear as glass. The innovation was developed using wood from the balsa tree, which is native to South and Central America, and claims to be five times more thermally efficient than glass. The team treated balsa wood in an oxidizing bath that bleaches it of nearly all visibility and then penetrated it with a synthetic polymer called polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) - creating a product that is virtually transparent. Unlike traditional glass, the transparent wood can withstand much stronger impacts and will bend or splinter when damaged, instead of shattering.
Oct.  07, 2020: Astounding Villages and free Milk: Kurnool zillah Ganjahalli (more than 400 buffaloes) and Kadimetla (about 500 to 600 buffaloes) villagers have several Buffaloes and the milk from them is consumed at home and remaining milk is just distributed away free of cost. Daily they get 500 to 800 liters milk.
Oct. 07, 2020: In the process, scientists went through observing over 4,500 exoplanets and were able to find out 24 planets based on certain parameters that gave evidences of a conducive environment for life-supporting conditions although no life has yet been confirmed on those planets. Moreover, all these planets are 100 light-years away from the Earth located outside the Solar System.

Oct. 08, 2020: Mind and space bending physics on a convenient chip. A feature of the circuits is that microwaves are indifferent to the shapes of the resonators that contain them and are just influenced by the total length. It also doesn't matter at what angle the different paths connect. Kollár realized that these facts mean the physical space of the circuit can effectively be stretched or squeezed to create a non-Euclidean space—at least as far as the microwaves are concerned. This is because in a hyperbolic space the shape of the lattice changes with its size due to the curving of the space. The new paper establishes mathematical tools, such as a dictionary between discrete and continuous geometry, to circumvent these issues and make sense of the results of simulations.
Oct. 09, 2029: Several CCTV cameras and a couple of eyewitness spotted a large flash of light that appeared in the sky for a brief period of time. According to a Reuters report, the fireball, likely a meteorite, was also seen in Monterrey, Mexico. The Mexican Civil Defence Ministry said that the object was probably a meteorite breaking up as it entered earth's atmosphere.
Oct. 09, 2029: Four light intensity quakes in Himachal’s Lahaul-Spiti district, no casualty. Four light intensity quakes within 15 minutes jolted Himachal Pradesh’s tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti early on Friday. The quakes, measuring 2.1 to 3.3 on the Richter scale, struck between 2.28am and 2.43am. The epicentre of the tremors was at a shallow depth of 5km and 70km north-northwest of Manali. The first quake measured 2.1, the second 2.4, third 2.5 and the fourth 3.3.
Oct. 09, 2020: Minor earthquakes shakes Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. Friday's quakes lasted for several seconds, forcing panic-stricken people to run out of their homes.  According to the National Centre for Seismology data, a quake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale was experienced at 3.12 a.m. in eastern Manipur's Kamjong district, with its epicentre at a depth of 10 km. Another tremor measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale occurred at 8.21 a.m. in western Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang district at a depth of 10 km.
Oct. 09, 2020: Scientists spot possible 'missing link' between weird magnetars and pulsars. Scientists had thought that two kinds of pulsars — magnetars, which sport extremely powerful magnetic fields, and rotation-powered pulsars — emit their beams in different ways. But a new study suggests that these extreme objects have more in common than was previously presumed.
Oct. 09, 2020: Recurrent Solar Energetic Particle Flux Enhancements Observed near Earth and Mars. C. Krishnaprasad et al.,  The Astrophysical Journal (2020). August 1 to November 15, 2016 period was characterized by the presence of Corotating Interaction Regions (CIRs) and a few weak Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) in the heliosphere. In this study we show recurrent energetic electron and proton enhancements observed near Earth (1 AU) and Mars (1.43-1.38 AU) during this period. The observations near Earth are using data from instruments aboard ACE, SOHO, and SDO whereas those near Mars are by the SEP, SWIA, and MAG instruments aboard MAVEN. During this period, the energetic electron fluxes observed near Earth and Mars showed prominent periodic enhancements over four solar rotations, with major periodicities of ~27 days and ~13 days.

Oct. 12, 2020 / 10:01 AM: Wearable tattoo: Scientists print sensors directly onto skin without heat. Researchers were first able to lower the sintering temperature to 212 degrees Fahrenheit by adding a new nanoparticle to the silver components -- creating what scientists called a sintering aid layer. Researchers made their new aid layer out of polyvinyl alcohol paste and calcium carbonate. The layer allowed scientists to fuse the ultra-thin layer of metal patterns to the sensor using a hair dyer set on cool. The resulting device is flexible and boasts all the necessary electromechanical characteristics. In tests, scientists used their new wearable sensor to measure temperature, humidity, blood oxygen levels and heart rhythms.

On Tuesday evening, Oct. 13, 2020, the planet Mars will be at its brightest and closest to Earth for this apparition, appearing opposite the Sun as seen from Earth (called opposition, effectively a "full" Mars). From Visakhapatnam, it will be visible between 18:11 and 05:21. It will become accessible around 18:11, when it rises to an altitude of 7° above your eastern horizon. It will reach its highest point in the sky at 23:44, 77° above your southern horizon. It will become inaccessible around 05:21 when it sinks below 8° above your western horizon. On this occasion, Mars will lie at a distance of 0.42 AU, and its disk will measure 22.3 arcsec in diameter, shining at magnitude -2.6. Even at its closest approach to the Earth, however, it is not possible to distinguish it as more than a star-like point of light without the aid of a telescope.
Note: Throughout night in Visakhapatnam on October 13, 2020, it was very cloudy and rained intermittantly it seems, it would continue another four days. The Mars and Moon coud not be located at all.
