Nov. 5, 2021: 6 hrs ago: West Bengal, following unprecedented devastation after two cyclones, Cyclone Amphan and Cyclone Yaas, residents of two islands in the Sundarbans — Ghoramara and Mousuni —were moved away to safety by the West Bengal government as tidal waters and rainfall pose grave risk to their lives while much of their property has already been claimed by the sea in July 2021. Man and animal have cohabited these islands, but climate change has out a question mark on the existence of Sundarbans itself, which incidentally also features on the Unesco World Heritage List. According to a climate threat assessment report released by the Centre last year, the Bay of Bengal area where the Sundarbans lies is one of the most climatically vulnerable zones in India with an increase in sea levels and flooding presenting the greatest risk. An analysis of data between 1891 and 2018 showed that the Bay of Bengal region was struck by 41 severe cyclonic storms and 21 cyclonic storms during the given period. All these events had occurred in the month of May.

NASA 3D Animation Shows How Gravity Levels Differ Across Our Planet Earth.  Monit Khanna 9 hours ago..  According to NASA, gravity is determined by the mass and since Earth’s mass isn’t distributed equally across the planet, gravity also tends to change over time. A few years ago, it shared a 3D visualization of a gravity model, on a geoid map of Earth -- a map showcasing Earth’s real shape and not the sphere ball we assume it to possess -- based on the data collected from using GRACE, that showed surprising variations in Earth’s gravity field.

Due to climate change, we now have blue bananas that tastes like vanilla ice cream.7 hours ago: Blue bananas are better able to resist cold spells than the varieties we are used to, and the trees can withstand negative temperatures of up to -7°C, whereas yellow bananas are usually only grown in tropical environments. The hardy Blue Java can be found at altitudes of up to 1,800m and is grown in Fiji, the Philippines, and other parts of Southeast Asia.Tomatoes, for example, now have a blue variety that can be grown in your garden if the weather conditions are humid and don’t exceed 25°C. Small in size and reminiscent of the cocktail variety, this tomato, named OSU Blue, was created in the early 2000s by an American research institute.

The never-before-seen mineral sheds light on the unexplored secrets that remain hidden in Earth's different layers.Officially called "calcium silicate perovskite," the mineral can only form under extremely high pressures that are possible only in the deepest throes of Earth. According to Scientific American, the newly-discovered mineral could have formed 660-900 kilometres beneath the Earth's surface.Three extremely minute pieces of calcium silicate perovskite were discovered by scientists from Orapa in Botswana, and the discovery was announced in Science on Thursday and led by Oliver Tschauner of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Nov.14, 2021: Couple grows world's largest potato weighing a whopping 8 kgs. Yesterday 12:05 pm. In a bizarre series of events, a couple from New Zealand ended up growing a potato as large as the size of a turkey weighing a whopping 7.8 kilograms. This might also be the largest potato to be ever recorded in history. The couple, Colin and Donna Craig-Brown were going about their day, weeding their garden near Hamilton when they suddenly found something unusual and began digging. At first, they thought that this might be a kind of root or a fungal growth but as they dug deeper, they were dumbfounded by the large object. After they pulled it out, Colin tasted a piece and discovered that it was a potato. The couple has named it 'Doug' and have applied to Guinness to have Doug officially recognized. They are currently waiting for a response. In 2011, 'tater' from Britain was declared as the largest potato which was under 5 kgs. The couple had planted potatoes about 2-3 years ago and since then have been growing cucumber. They said that they have no idea how this huge one got there. Speaking to a leading paper, they said, "It’s fair to say our veggie garden can sometimes get a bit feral. There are some parts of the garden you need to pack a lunch and advise your next of kin before heading in to." Colin further added, "It’s a mystery to me, It’s one of nature’s little pleasant surprises."
