ABSTRACT
What
the present author, claimed is that the gale was severe at the height of about
25feet nearly, led to unbelievable damage of the poor people homes and the
galvanized iron serrated roof tops blown off. This was eye witnessed by the author
around 7h30mAM to 9h30mAM of the uplift and blown away serrated roof top
coverings and luckily I could photograph it. The damage was unbelievable and the author felt totally upset and not
able to restructure it for nearly more than a month of the unforgettable event.
When
it became lull and myself, the boy Prayascha, and his mother Sow. Alivelu Manga
Garu moved on to the terrace at 12h04mPM on the Oct 12, 2014 to observe the
cyclone but it was totally lull with no wind at all. Lull period continued till
13h04mPM when the wind speed suddenly slashed up. That was the period when the
Super-storm touched the Visakhapatnam Coast exactly an hour from 12h04m to
13h04m the cyclone stalled over the city Visakhapatnam.
The swirling
wind of about 245km/hr, the second part of the havoc, watched by me from 1h 05m PM up to 6PM from P V
R Murthy residence, later to late night up to 11hPM, from Theosophy Lodge. The
second part was much more severe, it was super-cyclonic and caused damage to
all the trees and plants in the city locality, after it lifted off many a home
and shop coverings mercilessly, of the galvanized iron serrated roof tops etc.
The owner of the house entitled 17-11-10, Narasimha Ashram,
Official Colony, at Maharanipeta P. O is Shri Kotcherlakota Sai Rangadhama Rao,
hardware Computer Engineer.
INTRODUCTION
A
sudden onslaught of mighty super-wind supported by rain-gale created havoc to
the people of Visakhapatnam on the 12th October 2014, unimagined and
unsuspected wrath of the heavy storm by the citizens of the city. It also
affected the Vijayanagaram and the Srikakulam district places and the surrounding
villages. What the present author, claimed is that the gale was severe at the
height of about 25feet nearly, led to unbelievable damage of the poor people
homes and the galvanized iron serrated roof tops blown off. This was eye
witnessed by the author around 7h30mAM to 9h30mAM of the uplift and blown away serrated roof top
coverings and luckily could photograph it. The
damage was unbelievable and the author felt totally upset and not able to
restructure it for nearly more than a month of the unforgettable event.
When it became lull and myself, the boy Shri Prayascha,
and his mother Sow. Alivelu Manga Garu moved on to the terrace at 12h04mPM on
the Oct 12, 2014 to observe the cyclone but it was totally lull with no wind at
all. Lull period continued till 13h04mPM when the wind speed suddenly slashed
up. That was the period when the Super-storm touched the Visakhapatnam Coast
exactly an hour from 12h04m to 13h04m the cyclone stalled over the city
Visakhapatnam.

But at 13h40m heavy
wind spiraling upward noticed and
commented by Prayascha. Some people, unaware, were found rolled up the hill
road of Maharanipeta beach road from the Ocean side to the Collector’s office.
Sow. Alivelu Manga Garu described that in the morning Northwest to South East
and in the afternoon South to North the cyclone changed the direction of its
onslaught. At 13h04m wind that increased in power by 13h27m. At 13h32, 13h33m
and at 13h34m heavy wind developed.
At 13h52m heavy wind
of 180km speed evolved. The spiraling was anticlockwise. At 14h01m the storm
thrust increased speed. The super-cyclone wind was felt and noticed around
14h12m. The power of it increased considerably at around 14h50m may be 220km
achieved. 15h25m the speed slightly reduced and further at 15h40m it reduced again
meaning that the cyclone has moved from the coastal region on to the land. The
impact of the super cyclone thrashing was on to the hill of God Shiva and
Goddess Parvathi idols.
The
swirling wind of about 245km/hr, the second part of the havoc was much more
severe, it was super-cyclonic and caused damage to all the trees and plants in
the city locality, after it lifted off many home and shop coverings
mercilessly, of the galvanized iron serrated roof tops. It lasted from 1h05mPM
to late night 11h PM. Many a poor people suddenly became homeless and most of
their home appliances and items of living have been totally smashed away. The
big trees surrounding the roads have been shattered and fallen down with roots
uplifted and became exposed.
GENERAL
The
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit, made a remarkable effect and the recovery
works of magnificent workers, with saw mobile tools have become very efficient
and effective, when they chopped off the tree branches and lifted, the left
debris by cranes loaded on to the clearing Lorries. The main path ways in the city have been cleared away, the traffic on
the highways and strategic roads of the city restored within a span of just
four days.
A major observation
by the author is that the HUDHUD cyclone is more a ‘Super-Wind circulation’
with water vapor and moderate rain. There was no thunder (except just one mild one) or
lightning accompanying the wind-circulation of tremendous speed almost
248km/hr.
THE
HOUSE NARASIMHA ASHRAM
The House belongs now
to Master Shri Kotcherlakota Sai Rangadhama Rao at 17-11-10 Narasimha Ashram,
Official Colony, Maharanipeta. P. O. whose photos as a kid, with his father
Kotcherlakota Amarnath, his mother Srimathi Kalyani along, with his two
sisters, Gayatri younger on the lap of mother and middle sitting charming Dr.
Suhasini at USA, Asst Professor, Medical School are very exemplary.
The
description of the house damage, by the super-wind cyclone storm is really
painstaking, but, alas the house is found to be intact except the downstairs
big trees and the front yard trees have totally collapsed.
I have
gathered the photos of the wreckage, brought in by the HUDHUD on our Narasimha
Ashram family residence. Particular projection of these pictures is made since
the House was built during 1932 to 1942 by Late Professor K. R. Rao. D.Sc.(Madras)
D.Sc. (London).
OUR FAMILY AND Kotcherlakota Sai Rangadhama Rao:
We all eight children
of Late Prof K R Rao and mother Srimathi Peramma, graduated and completed
almost our adulthood, in this magnificent mansion stretching, from the main
road leading to Mrs. A.V.N. College and downstairs, the municipal road
occupying an area of almost 1000sq.feet. The house divided in two portions one
upstairs facing the Main Road connecting Collector’s office to Mrs. A V N Collage
the other downstairs with steps leading to the lower street of 21st
Ward (current) Municipal office.
We lived in the house
from 1957 to 1972, earlier in childhood from 1932 to 1942, and a brief period
from 1948 to 1949, with downstairs rooms used as a kitchen and upstairs our
living quarters. My father told me that a
banking underground wall dividing the two floors was almost 6 feet across on
the top basement, with the ground basement of 15 feet masonry construct.
The VC of AU occupied
the house from 1944 to 1948 when most of the architect features of AU was
tutored to the VC by Prof. K. R. Rao, and the entire data was destroyed by him
in 1948 in the same house where he stayed comfortably, less Prof. K. R. Rao may get the credit of shaping the University.

In the year, when my father Late
Prof. K. R. Rao D.Sc. (Madras) D.Sc. (London) was at his intermediate studies
in Visakhapatnam during the Deepavali holidays, they noticed that the back
waters of the city have enormously increased in height due to heavy rains in
the year 1917 and entered the top room on the hill of the old Visakhapatnam
residence in Kotcherlakota Veedhi opposite the Mahalakshmi Temple street.
Surprisingly the elders and the youngsters were playing ‘cards game’ at that
time in the afternoon.
