Depending on the model and crop, the water can be recycled, so it is a more environmentally friendly way of growing produce. These farms take up less space, because they can be vertical, and use far less water (70-90% less) than traditional agriculture. In the last few years, there has been an explosion of such ventures across the country, catering to young India’s burgeoning desire for fresh produce.
Sept. 18, 2021: Google's Quantum Computer Helps Scientists Create Physics-Defying 'Time Crystal'. Bharat Sharma 1 day ago Did scientists working with Google recently create a "time crystal" using Google's quantum computer? It seems so. Time crystals are basically a phase of matter, i.e., they will perpetually exist between two states without losing energy. The scientists created a time crystal for about 100 seconds using qubits (which is essentially the most basic unit of quantum information) inside Google's Sycamore quantum processor. Terrifyingly enough, these time crystals remain stable and do not just lapse into random chaos, even while continuously being in a state of movement. The research, in collaboration with Google was posted on arXiv, a preprint database on July 28.

Sept. 18, 2021 4:06:21 pm: CJI N V Ramana calls for ‘Indianisation’ of country’s legal system. The CJI underlined that courts should be litigant centric, as they are the ultimate beneficiaries. CJI Ramana pointed out: “When I say Indianisation, I mean the need to adapt to the practical realities of our society and localise our justice delivery systems. For example, parties from a rural place fighting a family dispute are usually made to feel out of place in the court. They do not understand the arguments or pleadings which are mostly in English, a language alien to them. These days, judgments have become lengthy, which further complicates the position of litigants. For the parties to understand the implications of a judgment, they are forced to spend more money”

Sept. 19, 2021: Archaeologists Armed With Metal Detectors Hunt for Lost Treasure at Puri's Jagannath Mandir. A treasure hunt has started at the Emar Mutt (monastery), located in the southeastern corner of the 12th Jagannath Mandir, with teams of archaeologists armed with metal detectors searching for a lost hoard. The search started on Thursday is being carried out following a request by the Narayan Ramanuj Das, the Mahant (head) of Uttarparshwa Mutt, who is in charge of Emar Mutt. In 2011, the police had stumbled on a treasure trove of 522 silver ingots weighing 18 tonnes inside the Mutt worth about Rs 90 crore. Earlier in April, 45 more silver ingots weighing about 35 kg each were found inside the Mutt. Apart from silver ingots, a silver tree and silver flowers, about 16 antique swords, and a bronze cow sculpture were also recovered from the Mutt, stablished by Ramanujacharya in 1050 when he came to Puri. This confession led to the discovery of a room stashed with silver ingots.I had got conclusive evidence that the silver ingot was part of the payment made by the British authorities to various Mutts for rice purchased from them during famine years. The Emar Mutt was among the biggest landowners of the period and had overflowing granaries, he said adding that when the British administration wanted to buy the stocks for relief kitchens, the Mutt heads had demanded payment in bullion.

Using specialised nanoparticles in a plant's leaves, scientists at MIT created not only a light-emitting plant, but a light-emitting plant which can be charged using LED. Plants emit light and glow brightly for a few minutes after being charged for at least 10 seconds, scientists claim. And this charging process does not harm the plant which can be recharged repeatedly. The same group is no stranger to glowing plants.
Sept. 21, 2021: Scientists Map Galactic Wind For First Time, Find Some of Universe's Missing Matter. Buzz Staff 20 hours ago. Let us keep it clear that we are not talking about the dark matter here. Matter as we know it is made up of electrons, protons and neutrons, and scientists call it baryonic matter. According to scientists, we do not know about 80 per cent of galaxies’ ordinary matter. Finding the missing matter is key to understanding how galaxies formed. Now, in a rare feat, scientists have found some of the missing matter by mapping a galactic wind – a stream of high-speed particles blowing out of galaxies – for the first time. Using the Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer from the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope, an international team of scientists generated a detailed map of a galactic wind. The galactic wind in the map is driving the exchange of matter between a cloud of gas -or a forming young galaxy -and interstellar gas which is also called a nebula.

The researchers also showed that the device can even work with ocean waves, where the water is saline, and through the ocean waves contacting the surface of nanocomposite polymer film, electricity is generated.
Sept. 22, 2021: Tamil Nadu: In a rare event, tornado spotted over sea at Rameswaram.Pramod Madhav 2 hours ago. Fishermen in Tamil Nadu spotted tornadoes appearing over the sea near Mandapam at Gulf of Mannar in Rameswaram. One of the fishermen managed to capture a photo of the twister appearing steadily over the sea. Officials from Ramanathapuram Fisheries Department explained that the phenomenon is known as tornado waterspouts, which are rotating columns of air over water. In general, a tornado and waterspout occur when a vortex of air begins to pull in cool and moist air from the surrounding, while there is a layer of warm air present in the area as well. The main distinction between a tornado and a waterspout is that while a tornado occurs over land, a waterspout occurs over water. Both tornado and waterspouts have a rapid rotation of air and are both classified as tornadoes. However, waterspout tends to be weaker. Tornado waterspouts are seen mostly in tropical area, but are a rare sight.

The collection of 53 coins date back to the 4th and 5th centuries and are nearly perfectly preserved. Researchers suggested the coins could have been hidden from barbarian looters. Freedivers off the coast of Spain have uncovered a treasure trove of 53 perfectly preserved gold coins from the Roman Empire, one of the largest collections ever found in Europe. What makes the discovery even more unusual is how perfectly preserved the coins were. Researchers were able to identify the emperors on the coins: Valentinian I (3 coins), Valentinian II (7 coins), Todosio I (15 coins), Arcadi (17 coins), Honorius (10 coins), and an unidentified coin. Molina said that the discovery could provide a multitude of new information to understand the final phase of the fall of the Western Roman Empire. Historians said that the coins could have been intentionally hidden to avoid looting barbarians, such as the Alans. They said the coins shed light on the historical moment of insecurity with the arrival of barbarian people, such as the Suevi, Vandals, and Alans, leading to the fall of the Roman Empire.

Sept.28, 2021: 2,000-yr-old Meerut find may lead to ‘lost’ Ashoka pillar site. Sandeep Rai 14 hours ago. Now, after the Meerut circle of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) was created just last year, the remains have been identified as those of a Mauryan-period brick platform going back over 2,000 years. And it could hold the key to a “lost” Ashoka Pillar site from the 3rd century BCE. “A large part of the structure is in the form of a 30m by 35m platform at Vikas Puri . The ancient site is undoubtedly one from the Mauryan period because the bricks are typical of the era,”The dimensions of the bricks are unique to the Mauryan period — 42cm x 26cm x 8cm. The finding has rekindled hopes that it could lead historians to a pillar installed in Meerut around 3rd century BCE by Ashoka, the third emperor of the Mauryan dynasty.
Sept. 29, 2021: Jupiter is in the news, again. Reason is the Great Red Spot and it is all courtesy of the tech marvel that is the Hubble Space Telescope. The Red Spot is a storm that has a wind speed of nearly 650 kmph and it has been going on for a few hundred years! The size of the Great Red Spot? 16,000 km across. That is one big storm. The data sent by Hubble telescope in its regular "storm reports", shows that the average wind speed just within the boundaries of the storm, known as a high-speed ring, has increased by up to 8 percent between 2009 to 2020. However, the winds near the Red Spot’s innermost region are moving quite slowly. The fastest that the wind is travelling at in the Great Red Spot is over 643 kmph."But it's an interesting piece of data that can help us understand what's fuelling the Great Red Spot and how it's maintaining energy."
