Apr.1, 2022: Record night temp behind unusually hot, dry March. The hottest of days were not evenly spread across the month for either city, but instead occurred sporadically. The average day temperatures – or the maximum that is recorded -- for the month for Delhi (33.2°C) was only the eighth warmest since 1951. In the case of Mumbai (33.5°C), the average day temperature was in fact cooler than usual -- in fact, it was the 24th coolest March in terms of day temperatures since 1951.

Apr. 2, 2022: Argonne National Laboratory, scientists have achieved efficient quantum coupling between two distant magnetic devices, which can host a certain type of magnetic excitations called magnons. These excitations happen when an electric current generates a magnetic field. Coupling allows magnons to exchange energy and information. This kind of coupling may be useful for creating new quantum information technology devices. “Remote coupling of magnons is the first step, or almost a prerequisite, for doing quantum work with magnetic systems”

Apr. 2, 2022: The study mentioned that the core of Earth is leaking Helium-3, a rare isotope of helium gas. And as all the Helium-3 is from the Big Bang event itself, it hints that Earth has formed inside a solar nebula! The solar nebula was said to be the rotating, flattened disk of gas and dust from which the solar system itself originated. The discovery of Helium-3 shows that this element exists in huge volumes on Earth, even though its location and quantity are undetermined. Even though some natural processes, such as the radioactive decay of tritium, can produce helium-3, this fundamental element is mostly produced in nebulae. "Volatiles from the solar nebula are known to be present in Earth's deep mantle. The core also may contain solar nebula-derived volatiles, but in unknown amounts".

Nothing much is known about the content and context of Swami Vivekananda’s first speech in the United States, which was about a fortnight before his historic Chicago address in September 1893, but the residents of this quiet seacoast village about 65 kilometers north of Boston, to this day remember him as a Hindu monk whose wisdom and intelligence exceeded that of a Harvard professor.
Dec. 18, 2020: An especially counter-intuitive feature of quantum mechanics is that a single event can exist in a state of superposition — happening both here and there, or both today and tomorrow. Such superpositions are hard to create, as they are destroyed if any kind of information about the place and time of the event leaks into the surrounding — and even if nobody actually records this information. But when superpositions do occur, they lead to observations that are very different from that of classical physics, questioning down to our very understanding of space and time. Scientists from EPFL, MIT, and CEA Saclay, publishing in Science Advances, demonstrate a state of vibration that exists simultaneously at two different times, and evidence this quantum superposition by measuring the strongest class of quantum correlations between light beams that interact with the vibration.

Dec. 9, 2020 1.18pm GMT: Matter is what makes up the universe, but what makes up matter? This question has long been tricky for those who think about it – especially for the physicists. Reflecting recent trends in physics, my colleague Jeffrey Eischen and I have described an updated way to think about matter. We propose that matter is not made of particles or waves, as was long thought, but – more fundamentally – that matter is made of fragments of energy. Our theory begins with a new fundamental idea – that energy always “flows” through regions of space and time. Think of energy as made up of lines that fill up a region of space and time, flowing into and out of that region, never beginning, never ending and never crossing one another. Working from the idea of a universe of flowing energy lines, we looked for a single building block for the flowing energy. If we could find and define such a thing, we hoped we could use it to accurately make predictions about the universe at the largest and tiniest scales. For the math and physics aficionados, it is defined as A = -⍺/r where ⍺ is intensity and r is the distance function. For the precession-of-Mercury problem, we modeled the Sun as an enormous stationary fragment of energy and Mercury as a smaller but still enormous slow-moving fragment of energy. For the bending-of-light problem, the Sun was modeled the same way, but the photon was modeled as a minuscule fragment of energy moving at the speed of light. In both problems, we calculated the trajectories of the moving fragments and got the same answers as those predicted by the theory of general relativity. We were stunned.

Fig.15 Primitive art of ancestors petroglyphs in Konkan.
To describe our ancestors as ancient or primitive is often a misnomer. The word conveys the image of man as barbaric, rough and uncouth to the ways of the world. It is erroneous. As the findings of the stunning petroglyphs in Konkan prove — before there was language, there was art. Dating back to 5,000 years to almost 20,000 years, the petroglyphs from the Konkan region of Maharashtra and Goa are a stunning evidence of the ability, observation and life of our ancestors. Carved on the laterite Konkan plateau, these works are an evidence of life during that period. Sudhir Risbud of the Nisargyatri Sanstha, and a dedicated naturalist, says, “From the perspective of the history of human evolution, petroglyphs are the first example of a human being’s need for expression.”

Apr. 9, 2022: Unraveling the Mystery: How Wave-Particle Interactions Generate Other Plasma Waves in Geospace. Nagoya University.  Researchers from Japan show that high-frequency plasma waves in the Geospace can generate low-frequency plasma waves through wave-particle interactions by heating up low-energy ions, unveiling a new energy transfer pathway in collisionless plasma.  A prominent signature of plasma — a state of matter characterized by freely roaming charged particles interacting via electromagnetic forces — is the generation of “plasma waves,” resulting from an instability of plasma distributions. “Fast magnetosonic waves” (MSWs) are one kind of electromagnetic plasma wave in the Geospace. MSWs result from hot protons and are considered “high frequency waves.”Another kind of wave commonly generated in the Geospace is the “electromagnetic ion cyclotron” (EMIC) wave, which is considered a “low frequency wave.” Recently, satellite observations in the Geospace have shown that MSWs and EMIC waves often occur together. However, the mechanism underlying this co-occurrence has remained unclear.

Apr.15, 2022: Evidence of earliest known use of Maya calendar that predicted 2012 doomsday found in pyramid. 17 hours ago. Researchers have now found the first evidence hinting at the earliest-known use of the Maya calendar on mural fragments dating from the third century BC inside the ruins of a pyramid in Guatemala. Researchers analysed 11 fragments of ancient Maya wall painting that are part of the larger San Bartolo mural fragment corpus, a collection of approximately 7,000 mural fragments excavated from the site. The Mayan civilisation, similar to the Aztec and Inca, was an ancient civilisation of modern-day America that flourished more than two thousand years ago. The 260-day calendar was used throughout ancient Mesoamerica and is still used among some indigenous communities in southern Mexico and Guatemala.  In a study published in the journal Science Advances, researchers said that the 7-Deer day record represents the earliest securely dated example of the Maya calendar and is important to understanding the development of the 260-day count and associated aspects of Mesoamerican religion and cosmological science. The date 7-Deer, recorded on a glyph, represents a day in the 260-day calendar. Deer is one of four days of the Mesoamerican calendar on which the 365-day year could begin, known as a "Year Bearer." The fragments were found at the San Bartolo archeological site in the jungles of northern Guatemala, which gained fame with the 2001 discovery of a buried chamber with elaborate and colorful murals dating to about 100 BC depicting Maya ceremonial and mythological scenes, researchers said on Wednesday.  Two mural fragments dating to about 200 BC to 300 BC from the San Bartolo Preclassic ancient Maya site in Guatemala bearing evidence for the earliest use of the Maya calendar, a symbol for the calendar date "7 Deer" (top) and as well as a partial hieroglyphic text (bottom). (Photo: Science Advances). The pieces with the "7 Deer" glyph were unearthed inside the same Las Pinturas pyramid where the still-intact later murals were located. The fragments with glyphs were collected from two areas during archaeological excavations. David Stuart, lead author of the research and a professor of Mesoamerican art and writing at the University of Texas described the fragments as "two small pieces of white plaster that would fit in your hand, that were once attached to a stone wall."  "The wall was intentionally destroyed by the ancient Maya when they were rebuilding their ceremonial spaces - it eventually grew into a pyramid. The two pieces fit together and have black painted calligraphy, opening with the date '7 Deer.' The rest is hard to read," Stuart told Reuters. The calendar, rooted in observations of the movements of the sun, moon, and planets, was based on a ritual cycle of 260 named days. The 260-day calendar, called the tzolk'in, was one of several inter-related Maya systems of reckoning time, also including a solar year of 365 days, a larger system called the "Long Count" and a lunar system. The calendar was among the achievements of a culture that also developed a writing system encompassing 800 glyphs, with the earliest examples also from San Bartolo. The Maya built temples, pyramids, palaces, and observatories and engaged in sophisticated farming without using metal tools or the wheel.

Apr.15, 2022: The Brahmin Files: Why atrocities on Brahmins remain one of the best-kept secrets in independent India. 18 hours ago. It is this tendency to move on and restart life silently that has ensured the atrocities on Brahmins remain the least known phenomenon. Even the organised killings of Brahmins, especially in Maharashtra, after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi are confined to the realm of speculations. How many people died? No one knows for sure. How much property was destroyed by the arsonists? Again, there are no definite answers. It’s pure luck that American scholar Maureen LP Patterson thought of researching on the aftermath of Gandhi's murder on the Maharashtrian Brahmins, especially the Chitpavans, to which sub-caste Godse and Savarkar belonged. It was sheer coincidence that PL Inamdar, lawyer of DS Parchure, one of the accused in the 1948-49 Red Fort Trial, thought to pen down his memoirs. And Congress chief minister of Central Province decided to validate his devotion for Gandhi when he made grandiose claims in his book about how he facilitated the persecution of the Brahmins soon after the assassination.

Apr.15, 2022: The vast object is called GNz7q, and it existed when the universe was just 750 million years old, about 13 billion years ago. GNz7q is shrouded in dust, so researchers still aren’t sure what it is. But based on current theories of black hole formation, and the sheer size of the object, the astronomers believe GNz7q is the precursor to a supermassive black hole. Their research is published this week in Nature. How the first black hole in the universe formed is “still one of the largest unknowns,” said study author Seiji Fujimoto, an astronomer at the Niels Bohr Institute of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, in an email to Gizmodo. One common theory, he said, is that the first black hole emerged from the first dead stars and swiftly swallowed up surrounding material. Another idea is that gas in the early universe collapsed, directly producing a black hole without an intermediate stellar period. A dusty compact object bridging galaxies and quasars at cosmic dawn. S. Fujimoto, et al., Here we report observations of an ultraviolet compact object, GNz7q, associated with a dust-enshrouded starburst at a redshift of z=7.1899+/-0.0005. The host galaxy is more luminous in dust emission than any other known object at this epoch, forming 1,600 solar masses of stars per year within a central radius of 480 parsec. A red point source in the far-ultraviolet is identified in deep, high-resolution imaging and slitless spectroscopy. GNz7q is extremely faint in X-rays, which indicates the emergence of a uniquely ultraviolet compact star-forming region or a Compton-thick super-Eddington black-hole accretion disk at the dusty starburst core. In the latter case, the observed properties are consistent with predictions from cosmological simulations and suggest that GNz7q is an antecedent to unobscured luminous quasars at later epochs.(less).
